Design/Sewing Question

Hi, my friend is planning on sewing a dress for homecoming and would appreciate some advice and constructive criticism on her design.

Apologies for the large pictures.

These are the materials she wants to use:

What is your opinion of the pinstripe fabric? For the bows, my friend wants to use the white, satin-like fabric in the third picture. Shiny fabrics are generally not used in lolita, but do you think it would be alright since it would be used only for the bows? As she intends to wear the dress to homecoming, in the end, the dress need not be strictly lolita. She would just like to create a pretty dress to wear. However, my friend would like to preserve a general lolita aesthetic if possible. Concerning sewing, she would like to know if she should line up the stripes at the seams.

The feedback she has gotten from a few others is that the dress seems a little too "maid-ish". Then again, many lolita dresses tend to look "maid-ish" to those unfamiliar with the fashion due to the poof. But what do you think of the balance between the black and white here?

Thank you very much.
