So, after watching Pirates of the Caribbean III this summer, I got it in my head to make a pirate lolita outfit. I haven't been able to buy the JSK I wanted (yet) but I did start off by making a pirate hat out of an old felt cowboy hat(!) and an eyepatch from scratch. Here they are!
Just for reference, before, my hat looked something like this:
It was an old hat I bought in Baguio, Philippines, in about 2000. It was just sitting in my closet, so I thought...hmm...mutation time anyone?
Here's the hat after I was done with it! It's not perfect, but I think I did alright. I bent the corners of the hat into a tricorn shape, added trim to the bottom, put a large black fabric flower and ribbon on the side, sewed a giant bow with trailing ribbons to the back, and attached two giant black ostrich feathers to the back. Whew!
Here it is with the eyepatch! I made the eyepatch with black fabric, trim, and lace. Haha so goofy looking...but I love it! By the way...any other Daft Punk lolita fans here? I saw them last night, and I'm like...still so happy from the concert...
Here they are, placed on my scary wig-head doll.
And here's the back of the hat.
I know they're not perfect, but I'm really not much of a sew-er...if I tried to really make something complex, I'd probably...burn my house down! Still, I'm glad I got to turn my cowboy hat into something I might actually use one day. The hat was modeled after the AatP pirate hats, though it came out looking quite differently. Hope everyone likes!
