Does anyone have any suggestions for what kind of skirt pattern would work best with a very lightweight cotton fabric? I have made several skirts before, but usually my fabric has had a little more body to it. I recently bought some adorable fabric that is super lightweight, so I'm wondering what the best kind of pattern would be with such a light fabric.
Skirts I've made in the past (and therefore can make without much difficulty) are your standard boring rectangle skirt (with and without bottom ruffle(s) / scallop hem / pintucks), standard trapezoid with bottom ruffle(s), 3 tier (meta style, not bustle skirt style) (that is, each tier coming off the above one, rather than all off of one underskirt like IW's Alice Trump skirt), and box pleat rectangle skirt. I know the 3 tier doesn't work super well with lightweight ones because I made one once out of a lightweight seersucker-ish Japanese fabric, and it caught every little breeze and lifted right up!
I usually avoid really lightweight fabrics because I just think they feel kinda cheap (though it doesn't always stop brands from using them!), but this one I just couldn't resist its cuteness!
Any suggestions for a skirt type that works really well with lightweight fabrics?
Thanks for any help!! <3<3<3
