**I understand that if this is totally off base it needs to be deleted and my bum be ostracized for stupidity.
As before mentioned, I'm on the curvier side of the scales...to the point where I would have to buy around three brand blouses to fit around my bust, and two skirts for my waist. When I realized that this didn't mean I had to miss out on the beautiful clothing y'all have managed to inspire me with (I'm an artist in my spare time...a chronic doodler if you will) such beautiful ideas.
I had every intention of starting out with uber frilliness…but my muse disagreed (for the most part) and I decided that I’d try making some casual loli skirts first that could be warn with high sleeveless button downs (the heat here will kill me), and more loli blouses later on or cute tees.
So I suppose after all that my question is: are there patterns or colours that are too bright/much for Lolita? I showed the following image (I thought the fabric was gorgeous and would make a beautiful skirt) to a friend and she said that it wasn’t Lolita, but rather decora…I figured I’d come here for the best information and maybe for some pointers, since I’m still trying to get my feet wet and figure out the subtle and distinctive rules for Lolita.
***I did find a decora site (since LJ seems to be having a problem posting long posts—or it hates me) and they told me to come see y’all (which I wanted to do first)…
The image in question is:
I was actually inspired after someone mentioned that a great way to keep a too big skirt on was with suspenders (who knows if they’ll actually end up being made) ^^...but anywho, if it isn't clear in the picture, the background is a swatch of the fabric, slightly scaled down, but not too much, and there is a gingham ruffle near the bottom (btw it looks short in the picture, but I plan to have the hem sit right about mid knee area).
I know for Loli there's usually a need for lace (which normally, I love), but, being a poor jobless college student lace isn’t really an option, so ruffles and pintucking and nice detailing (like green button covers) will have to do...
Since I'd like to be clear on three major projects I want to make this summer...do these fit into Lolita as well? Or are they decora and am I to be torn apart for my horrible ignorance?
I love the circus? Don't you ^^
I plan on making all three entire outfits especially the novelty purses (nothing is more fun than an odd shaped purse ^_^) And if I could, I’d splurge on a great pair of brand shoes (yay for tiny feet!) but I walk with a cane, and thus have to wear ‘special’ shoes…
So any pointers if I’m on the right track (or places to steer me if I’m totally off base) would be kindly appreciated.
I apologize for my newbishness...and if I managed to overlook something when I searched through the memories for my answers (extra sorriness!)...And I thank you all for being such a great help and having the patience to deal with me.
