I got into the fashion during the summer of 2014 and quickly (and unexpectedly) became obsessed with it. I spent most of 2015 buying and selling a lot of things, trying to figure out my style. I consider my style mostly classic, but I dabble in sweet and gothic.
Though my wardrobe is on the small side, I am very proud of what I have accumulated so far and hope that I can make better decisions for purchases this year. It's still weird to me that this all started with me thinking, "I want to wear something cute to Otakon," and then throwing together my first coord. Of course I still have a ways to go, especially when it comes to putting together truly elegant, cohesive coords.
~ Bodyline L447. This was my first lolita dress!
~ Alice and the Pirates Funeral Procession of Rose - Aria Blooming in the Twilight
This is the only real gothic piece I own. Would like this in the lavender colorway, too.
~Angelic Pretty Holy Night Story
Despite having looked this up on Lolibrary many times before, I straight up didn't realize this was an OP until I worked on this post. I'm a bit dense. The sleeves are on the small side, so I've only worn it with a blouse.
~ R-Series Ribbon Cookies JSK - Type B
~ Alice and the Pirates Wonder Bunny's Magical Cards Party JSK II
~ Baby the Stars Shine Bright Pas de Deux in the Blue Moon Odette JSK
This is one of my dream dresses. It doesn't really fit me comfortably (and honestly, probably never will as it stands), so I think I will look into modding options this year.
I want all the Nutcracker prints.
~ Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Old Rose, pink & mint colorways
THIS IS MY HOLY GRAIL DREAM DRESS. I found the pink one first, but the mint is my dream colorway. I'm hesitant to get rid of the pink one.
~ Top: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Wonder Story Comes in the Rose Blooming Night
I think Wonder Story is vastly a underrated print. It was the first brand item I bought, directly from Baby NYC.
~Bottom: Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Sonnet for Juliet - Love Potion with Romantic Irony
~ Infanta (name unknown)
~Top row: Infanta, Fan+Friend
~Bottom row: Fan+Friend, Bodyline
~Top row: Both Offbrand (from Yesstyle)
~Bottom row: Infanta, Fan+Friend
~Long Ears & Sharp Ears Studio
Bonus casual & otome pieces:
~Angelic Pretty Melty Ribbon Chocolate Salopette; MILK Donut Dress
~Emily Temple Cute
(Clockwise from the top)
~Taobao White Bolero (from MLD)
~Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Frill Knit Bolero
~Vintage bolero with detachable mink collar
~Fan+Friend Machine Birdcage Steampunk Lolita Vest
(Clockwise from the top)
Bodyline Pan017 in yellow, One Day in Paradise,
Malco Modes in ivory, and Leg Avenue
~Top row: Handmade floral headdress, Bella Bows bonnet, AatP black headbow, BTSSB ivory headbow
~Middle row: All from F+F
~Bottom row: Bella Bows crown, Offbrand tiara (eBay)
I included links to some of the accessories so you can a) see them at better angles and/or up close, b) get more information about them, especially if they come from smaller shops that not everyone has heard of. I couldn't find the original shop for some of the Taobao items, hence my occassional linking to to My Lolita Dress.
This isn't really all headwear, but I didn't really plan this photo well. It's a mix of offbrand, brand, Bodyline, Forever 21, things I've made, things lolitas in my comm have made, and Taobao. If you have questions, let me know!
~First two are BTSSB, then Innocent World, Bodyline, BTSSB, AatP, and Bodyline
~Top row: Taobao Totem Print Tights
I purchased this style of tights from Bodyline originally then eBay later on, not MLD, but that link will probably last longer than one from eBay. This is my go-to style of tights. They're usually very comfortable and I feel like the ivory goes with almost everything I own (maybe they actually don't, haha).
~Bottom row: First two are Taobao Elegant Vintage Droplight Prints Tights, then AatP, R-Series, We Love Colors, next two are from Target, and the last one is from Hue
~Top row: Offbrand (local shop), star pinky ring (Closet Child), star crystal ring (Claire's),
cookie ring (Once Upon a Cookie Etsy store), Alice ring (Closet Child)
~Middle row: Sweet & Co.; Macaron and rainbow sugar cookie earrings both from Once Upon a Cookie
~Last row: Vintage (lost the other but I still keep it around), handmade; last two are offbrand
~First row: Handmade
~Second row: Angelic Pretty
~Third row (left to right): Forever 21 pearl bracelet set, Offbrand pearl bracelet, Offbrand bracelets (from Closet Child)
~Fourth row: Forever 21 heart bracelet set, Chocomint candy bracelet
~Cookie necklace from Once Upon a Cookie, clock necklace from Closet Child,
and the locket necklace is handmade
~Blue Choker from Madame Nadine Etsy Store
Everything else is offbrand. I have other pearl-ish necklaces that I wear, but I get a lot of use out of the long strand.
~Bodyline 258, 262, and 263; Montreal RHS
~Bodyline S523, Antaina, Offbrand (eBay), and Offbrand (MIA)
I added the ribbons as shoe strings and attach flowers to them that I try to match to my dresses.
~Top row: Taobao (from MLD)
~Middle row (l to r): Liz Lisa, Offbrand (Yesstyle)
~Bottom Row: Amavel, Taobao
Not pictured: I have 2 pairs of these R-Series bloomers, a couple wigs, and one Kera magazine. I also have some blouses and a skirt I will try to sell this year.
~ Coming Attraction(s) ~
Juliette et Justine La femme Nue de la Bibliotheque JSK. This is one of my dream dresses!
Takeaways: I don't really think of my collection as super cohesive, but it definitely reflects all of my interests. I like the variety in styles. However, it also shows what I have prioritized. I have spent too much time looking at and purchasing shoes and not enough time and money on essentials such as blouses, boleros, and legwear. I almost forgot - I've made a few of my accessories, which has been personally rewarding to let out my (once dormant) artistic side.
Goals: Buy more blouses, gothic pieces, legwear; support indie and Taobao brands, and branch out to different shops in general.
I know there's a lot of talented lolitas out there with shops and I'd like to buy from then. I kind of rely on a handful of shops such as Closet Child, F+F, and MLD to browse for items and think I should expand a bit. I've gotten some stuff from like Y! Japan and so on, but I've taken a break because it's kind of time-consuming to stalk the auctions. Again, I know I have plenty of room to grow.
