Olive skin makeup

I have searched with no real success through past posts, youtube, etc. and have never really found any good results when it comes to lolita makeup tutorials for tan/dark olive skin. I have been to makeup counters at several stores and the just end up leaving looking like a mess with tons of tacky expensive ill-suited makeup slathered on my face T_T When I try to show sales associates what I am talking about or try to describe the look I want they look at me like I am speaking a different language. I don't know if it is just the people I encounter or if it is me and my terrible skin tone. I even tried to start very basic and find just a simple pink or pink-ish lip color that would work for me and I still had issues.

I am very uncomfortable in the realm of makeup *it took me 4 years to find a nice matte foundation that worked with my skin*, and everything I have learned makeup wise has been on the internet and from the ground up. When I started back in my first year of college I didn't really even know what primer was or that there was more than one kind of make up brush >_< I don't really have any friends with a similar skin color/tone to ask and all the females in my family have pale skin (plus my Mom is a tomboy lol).

My biggest concern at the moment is eye makeup, all the tutorials I find want to make me look like Kim Kardashian...ugh. I'm not even really sure how to apply eye makeup properly, and don't even get me started on eyelash curlers. Plus, I'm not sure what options are available to me color-wise with my skin tone. I have only learned through experience with clothing that I should stay away from anything yellow or green.

I would love to see some tutorials, infographics, or anything that might help me. All style tutorials would be welcome, but I tend to dress in classic and sweet. Gothic lolita eye makeup isn't nearly as scary to me because I know black and browns are really good with my skin and there are plenty of plain "gothic" or smokey eye makeups that work well with gothic style. If it makes any difference, I wear glasses :)

Thanks so much in advance everyone!
