EGL Throwback Thursday: June 2007

Today's (late) TBT is June 2007! This is another month that had tons of meetups, but also a lot of really cute posts too, as well as it being the month the comm sales was born, this apparently made some people think that EGL was dying now that the daily post counts had been cut in half, but there was still like 20+ posts a day! What I really liked about looking over this month was all the cute ideas people had, from Lolita ID cards to the idea to start up a Harajuku bridge type situation in NYC. This month was one of the first ILDs, which everyone called Loliday, and a bunch of meetup photos were posted, but it was so new most people didn't know what it was. The old self published magazine La Vie en Rose was also getting ready to come out! The English GLBs were also in the process of being made and EGL was very active in making sure they were done right! Oddly enough, after a few volumes came out people complained they were too much like "EGL the magazine" and were thus bored with them, oops, we probably sort of messed that up.

Fashion wise, summer of 2007 was firmly in the post-handbook old school and people weren't too keen on things straying from the usual. Here's some people getting confused about a long Meta dress, whether or not straw hats are OK, there's also this one post about people making fun of things brands released years ago. Personally, I think those old BtSSB stretch velvet tops are lovely and would be totally appropriate with some of the more lushly textured pieces that are being released today. Despite how weirdly strict about what is and isn't Lolita in the comm was at the time, there were a fair number of posts getting excited about things like Takuya Angel and Cyberlolita.

Meta released a lucky pack this month and people were so excited about it (You can see pics of it here and here), no one is ever as excited about lucky packs as they are in these old posts!

June 2007 was also an old wardrobe themed month and you can still see tons of old wardrobe posts hanging around! It's really neat to see what sort of things people had in their wardrobes 7 years ago!

There are also tons of old meetup posts still hanging around! Check out this second Novala Takemoto event (more pics here), this small 2 person meet, a cute tea party, a convention with lots of Lolitas, and a bunch of really cute individual outfits like this black AP outfit, this pink outfit with perfect ringlets, this pirate, and this cute pink OP.

2007 is probably my favorite year to dig around in because a lot of the outfits worn back then are now quintessential old school, the comm was also particularly active, so there's always something particularly interesting to read too! I first did this month because I thought it was the first month I attended a Lolita meetup, but I think I was actually at a BJD meetup that month and didn't go to the Lolita meetup until August!
