Omiai @ aflowerinhand’s Mostly Classic Wardrobe Post 2014

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post - Header

Hello!

I’ve been in the fashion for the past 4 years (well, 12 years including the time when I’d known about Lolita but was a student and so couldn’t afford it myself), but I’d never had the time to do a wardrobe post before. This year, I needed to do some spring cleaning before Chinese New Year and thought it’d be a great idea to do some closet-cleaning and take photos of my wardrobe at the same time.

Between my busy work schedule, making Chinese New Year hampers for church fund-raising, and helping my sister take care of her newborn son, it’s taken me all month to write this post, but it’s finally finished! :D So here is my first wardrobe post (and my first EGL post too actually ^_^)

I don’t wear full-on Lolita often, but I like to dress up my mannequin a lot and I do wear my dresses regularly in casual non-Lolita coordinates. I also really like dressing up other people and going out in a group which is just another reason to collect more dresses and accessories ^__^

In this post, I’ve mostly stuck to Lolita-specific items, i.e. stuff that I’d bought with the sole intention of wearing with Lolita. Also left out of this post are underthings like bloomers and petticoats, as well as stuff in the laundry and in my to-sell pile.

I apologize in advance for the varying and mostly poor quality photos here – eventually I got a bit tired of snapping photos and didn’t really bother checking my settings etc ^^;; I also got a bit lazy when editing the photos, so while most are corrected to show the right colour, there isn’t much else done to them. Besides, there’s only so much sharpening Photoshop can do to blurry photos! And um please don’t mind the wrinkles – I hope you understand that due to the sheer volume of stuff, I wasn’t about to iron all these dresses for just a photo catalogue of my wardrobe haha.

Anyway - here we go!

DRESSES:
I love dresses! Even my officewear and the few “normal” clothes I do have are mostly dresses. A good 30% of my dresses are from Lucky Packs, and these are the ones that see a lot of use, since they’re usually the plainer, non-printed pieces. I never actually realized just how many dresses I have till this post haha! Wow, need to cut down on my spending. Yikes ^^;

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Innocent World: Elise Rose
Juliette et Justine: La Dame et L’amant

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Innocent World: Bertille Rose – There’s a bit of a story behind this one! When it was first released then put up for sale, I couldn’t decide which colourway I liked best and ended up not buying the dress. Then along came my next three Innocent World Lucky Packs, and each of them had at least one Bertille Rose item in it! Such a pleasant surprise :D
Alice and the Pirates: End of Immortal Eden

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Baby the Stars Shine Bright: Rose Stripe Bouquet

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post

Innocent World: Alencon
Innocent World: Story of Queens & Angels
Innocent World: Eleonore

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Innocent World: Ellen Clapsaddle
Innocent World: Flora

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Bodyline: Floral Stripe JSK
R-Series: Floral Summer JSK

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
(This is probably my favourite photo in this entire post ^^;)
Juliette et Justine: Robe du Village
Innocent World: Grazia Crown
Juliette et Justine: La Robe du Chateau - I received this dress when my mum was sick, and let her open the parcel to cheer her up (it’s like opening a present!). The moment she saw this dress, her whole face brightened and she just said “Wow, such a gorgeous dress! When I was your age, I definitely would’ve worn this!”. I’m glad this fashion was able to put a smile on her face! :) Never selling this dress for this reason haha.

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Alice and the Pirates: Midsummer Night’s Dream - I bought this from YJA just before the Anketto results were announced. I felt rather silly having paid more than retail for a re-released print, especially once SS fees and shipping were included, but at least I knew I’d definitely have the dress instead of fighting half the Lolita comm for it :)
Alice and the Pirates: Night Fairy Fantasia

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Angelic Pretty: Radiant Candlelight - My first and only AP dress! :) I actually really like some of AP’s stuff (omg Chocolate Rosette, Misty Sky, Bookmark omg) but I’ve never been quick enough to catch their releases. This one was a lucky hit and I’m so happy I managed to snag this!
Surface Spell: Judgement Day Embroidery

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Innocent World: Charles Crown
Metamorphose: Rose Birdcage
Baby the Stars Shine Bright: Schoolgirl Tartan Check Lucky Pack JSK

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Juliette et Justine: Amour d’Amants - First JetJ dress! It was my first time browsing the JetJ site, and I’d just happened to notice that this dress was still in stock for my size, and just bought it without thinking. Such a lucky coincidence! One of my most flattering dresses :)
Innocent World: Royal Library - I was again really lucky to get this dress! I was occupied with work when this was first released, and by the time I got to the site, most everything was sold out. So glad I did manage to get this :D

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Juliette et Justine: Muguet
Metamorphose: Dim Light - This was the first Meta dress I’d bought, not including LPs. I spent a week trying to decide on a colour, and I’m really glad I chose the green! I’m now looking for the same JSK in Blue :D

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Infanta x2

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Lady Sloth x2 – The painting print dress on the right is one of my favourites! It’s a really comfortable cut and there was a time when I wore it to work once a week for months. It’s pretty faded by now, but so comfy.

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Innocent World: Anneliese
Metamorphose: Fancy Egg

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Baby the Stars Shine Bright: Traumerei

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post

Moi Meme Moitie: Silent Moon
Metamorphose: Dot Shirring LP JSK

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Juliette et Justine: Lapin et Carrousel
Moi Meme Moitie: Sleeping Garden - My first MMM dress! It’s so gorgeous, but the full shirring looks horrible when worn haha.

SKIRTS:
When I first started the fashion, someone recommended that I try skirt + blouse combinations because I’m a little on the heavy and curvy side, so dividing the outfit into two separate pieces would help make me look slimmer. So for a long while, I only bought skirts as main pieces, even though I didn’t really enjoy how it looked. Then one day, I decided to get myself some JSKs from Bodyline to try them out and found that I really look a lot better in JSKs than in skirts.

So, after also discovering that I look and feel better in classic than in sweet, I decided to sell nearly all my skirts. The skirts in these photos are actually mostly used as underskirts and overskirts, but I do love the few print skirts that I do have!

Innocent World: Romantic Rose
Innocent World: Versailles Rose

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Victorian Maiden: Victorian Queen - I’m so happy I managed to get something in this print! Back when I was just starting to wear Lolita, it was one of the Victorian Queen print dresses I’d seen in GLB that convinced me that classic is my style.

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Juliette et Justine: Le Monde de L’ange
Lady Sloth: Mists of Venice

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Dear Celine x2

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Metamorphose: Dim Light - So gorgeous! I call this one my Gryffindor skirt haha.
Innocent World: Merry Rose

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Juliette et Justine: Petale de Rose et Ruban - Both of these make very lovely underskirts! It’s quite hard to capture the actual colour of the pink skirt in photos, even after colour-correcting… This photo is actually nowhere near its actual colour!
Juliette et Justine: Petale de Rose

Bodyline & In The Starlight

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post

Innocent World: Stained Glass Rose

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post
Juliette et Justine: La Vierge Marie
Bodyline

TOPS:
As I live in a tropical country with an average temperature of 32C all year round, I find cotton blouses a bit too stifling. I much prefer wearing boleros over JSKs and I try to stick to chiffon blouses when I absolutely have to wear a blouse. I’m not quite sure where all these cutsews came from (oh wait, I think most of them are from Lucky Packs) but they’re what I pair with my skirts :)

My favourite blouses are the Mille Fleurs ones – I pair them with just about everything!

SHOES:
I’ll admit I have an addiction to shoes! I’ve tried to limit my Lolita shoe collection to one of each colour, but it seems to have expanded without me noticing haha. And I have another 3 pairs of Bodyline shoes on the way!

LEGWEAR:
I’m more of a tights/crew-socks person, so nearly all of my knee socks and OTKs are lucky pack items or free gifts. I really like how they look in coordinates, but I just don’t enjoy wearing them haha. But wow, for someone who’s only bought 8 pairs of mostly Bodyline socks, I really do have a lot of brand ones. I guess I got more of them in lucky packs than I realized!

I didn’t take photos of my lace tights collection, which are actually my most used legwear. Kind of hard to make used lacy tights look good in photos :)

BAGS:
These are all the Lolita-specific bags that I have! About half of them are from lucky packs, and most of the others were bought second hand. For handbags, I actually prefer to use street label bags. That said, I really really really want a heart bag collection – they’re just so cute!

I also love the clock bag – my colleagues are always very amused by it.

HEADWEAR, ACCESSORIES & OTHER STUFF:
I love hair accessories! I especially love flower corsages – I wear them nearly everyday :D I tried taking photos of these according to colour, but when digging through my collection, I sometimes found stuff I’d missed, so these photos are a bit all over the place.

I keep all my smaller hair accessories in this stackable drawer tower from Muji. My cousins, friends and their daughters love this tower! It’s like a treasure trove for them – open a drawer and it’s full of pretty things to look through and try on! I like to keep some of the drawers stocked with cheap hairbands and small accessories that I buy wholesale, so that the kids can take home something if they’re really having fun with the accessories.

I don’t wear many accessories, and most the few that I do wear are from my usual jewellery cabinet. However, I do love pearls very much, so I snapped a photo of some of my favourite pearl accessories :D

2014 Lolita Wardrobe Post

And some other accessories I use pretty often: umbrellas, parasols and fans, all to keep away the heat. I have a lot more fans than this (thank you, Daiso!) but these are the cutest ones I could find. Most of the others are scattered in handbags, book bags and I think I have about 5 of them in the office. I keep at least 2 fans in my handbag wherever I go, no matter what I’m wearing.

On the way in the mail:
Alice and the Pirates – Queen’s Coach in ivory
MILK Heart bag – one in black, one in lavender
Baby the Stars Shine Bright Mint Tartan OP & matching headbow
BPN asymmetrical dress
3 pairs of Bodyline shoes
A few Bodyline wigs

After looking through this post again, I think I really need to start working on some parts of my wardrobe that I find lacking, namely:
1. Purple stuff!
2. Brown boleros, blouses and cutsews
3. MILK heart bags :P I really want the gold one!

If you’re interested, I post my coordinates and updates on my Tumblr:
http://aflowerinhand.tumblr.com/

Thanks for looking! Hope you enjoyed the photos as much as I’ve enjoyed being part of the fashion :)
