The 'Unicorn' of Prints: Rare/Unobtainable Prints and Designs

I'm starting to get the impression that lolita pieces are like cars; the really popular ones will fade into obscurity for a while before either disappearing into used lots or re-surging to new heights at 5 times their initial value. The used market can be very fickle, after all, and sometimes it's years and years after someone sells their slightly used pieces that they regret it, hunt it down, and find that the dress they bought for 15,000 yen ten years prior is now 58,000 yen. What, in your opinion, is the rarest/most unobtainable print out there on the Lolita market?





I was browsing through Lolibrary for inspiration in red, and came across the Puppet Circus OP. I've heard horror stories from when it was first released, with mbok auctions hitting 100,000 yen for soy-sauce stained jsks, and the rare OP that floated across the Comm_sales scraping 800 USD a piece. I have never actually seen it on the Comm sales personally, and only once in person by freak chance. It has always been one of my favorite designs, albeit a complete pipe-dream. It's my 'The world is ending so might as well look like a million bucks when the asteroid hits' dress. DDC almost hit that level, but the re-releases have sort of done away with that problem. Puppet Circus now floats in infamy up there with Iron Gate in my mind.

Was it popular from release day, or was it made famous well after it disappeared from the market? Has an offbrand print surprised you in its popularity?
