New to Lolita: Question about clothing size

Hi I'm new here and to lolita in general and I've been looking for dresses, skirts, etc. on Bodyline since I'm on a budget, but it seems that the majority of styles come in a size medium, but I'm not sure if a Japanese medium is the same as an American medium. Anyone know about what size a medium is?

*edit* Since I have this problem when shopping for regular clothes, does anyone under 5' ever have problems finding outfits?
Sorry for asking newbie questions >.< I'll go away now...
