Lolita's perception in the fashion industry

I don't how many members are currently studying / have majored in Fashion Design. I've often been told that my lolita inspired designs are not interesting from a fashion design point of view because they look like "something a little girl would wear" and "there's no edge nor art to it" (actual quoting in brackets). For the record I wear and design mostly classic outfits, so OTT sweet cannot be blamed here. I was wondering how do you cope with all this? I personally moved on and no longer design lolita clothes partly because I felt otherwise I would have never been taken seriously in this industry and partly because I wanted to push my own boundaries. I'm no way a new Iris Van Herpen (sadly), meaning that you can still see a lot of "traditional" femininity and elegance in my works, but I'm definitely and slowly trying to distance myself from lolita despite of my own personal wardrobe choices. Thoughts?
