I apologize, for not having a proper title or my title is confusing. I'll try to explain it the best way possible. I know we all have been through 'reaction to lolita' thing, but in some situations, we need to dress normal. Just because it is a necessity.
So I decided to dress exactly in this outfit for Thanksgiving (without the rocking horse shoe, I just wore black pumps instead), it's relatively normal (or so as I thought):
Dress: Innocent World A-line dress
Then I got reaction from my friends, that my style is not normal, and I'm all dressing up weird. I know people do get reactions from Lolita (with puffy petticoat, and decked out in all OTT), but I have never thought this particular outfit will garner any attention.
So I turn to you guys for a little pointers and help to help me readjust my definition of 'normal' clothing. I'm afraid, that Lolita style has gave skewed my perspective on what normal is. If this issue has been addressed, please redirect me. I had try to use the search function, but it wasn't working. :(
So to end this post with an open ended topic. Do you think dressing up in Lolita after a few years/months has skewed your definition of normal clothing is? I'm just got a little upset, because I wasn't prepared to face weird stares that day in this outfit.
Bonus pic a little related:

The largest zucchini I've seen in my life.
Edit: I would like to clarify, that there's no dress code for this event. Just one of those holidays when I want a break from wearing t-shirt/jeans and be pretty for a day. As for work I wear business clothing.
PS: Thank you everybody who replied. You guys helped me a lot!
