Questions about Baby's SF store

My parents are going on their first trip to the west coast of the US, and that will include a stop in San Francisco, where they will be making a trip to the BTSSB store for me. They're going to be staying at the Executive Hotel Vintage Court, and according to MapQuest the store's a little over a mile away on foot. Would any locals recommend a walk there, or would it be better for them to take a cab or public transportation?
Also, would the store be able to ship any purchase they make in case they won't be able to pack it in their luggage? (The trip they're on is the last leg of a 2 week tour.)
