Review: Korean Brand Haenuli's Sleeping Beauty

When I saw the preorder for Haenuli's Sleeping Beauty series, I was very impressed with the print design and the style of the jsk. The hardest part was deciding which colourway to order, since she offered so many.  I ended up going with bordeaux since it matched the limited wardrobe I have here in Korea best.  However, she didn't have any construction examples of the bordeaux when I ordered, only sample swatches.  But once I saw the colour in person, I was very pleased and wanted to do a review on this wonderful indie brand to encourage others to give ordering from Haenuli a chance.  ^^  She's also very sweet in person and her English is very good despite her saying otherwise lol.  Picking up the dress was the first time I met her.

Sorry about the photo quality, they're all taken with my iphone.

Here's the jsk I received.  The construction is very impressive and as somebody with experience sewing myself, I didn't see any mistakes. I was surprised to learn that Haenuli does all her own sewing.  All the seams were straight and the hems were serged.

Closeup of the lace on the bodice.  Very cute rose lace where the ribbons are laced through, very much like Baby and AatP uses for their corseting.  Haenuli said she has her lace custom dyed, and it matches the print very well!

Here's the hem lace, you can also see the reverse of the fabric here.  The lace is such a beautiful, deep bordeaux.

All the ribbons have the ends burnt to prevent raveling.  I thought this was a really nice touch! The ribbons are silk.

The straps have two buttonhole options so the length can be adjusted.  The buttons are fabric covered to match.  She also has her own brand tag sewn in, which is cute and simple.

Closeup of the bodice.  I really love this design, and the fabric pattern is centered nicely!  The bow at the top is removable.

Here's the back shirring panel, which is also nicely constructed!  The shirring has a lot of stretch and the size is true to the measurements advertised.  The ribbons are nice quality.

Inside out.  The dress is fully lined, including the bodice.  I didn't find any loose threads and everything is cleanly done even on the inside.

Closeup of the gorgeous print.  The colours are very bold and the printing is clear.  I didn't see any misprints when I looked it over.  The fabric is a nice thick polyester with a matte sheen, and it's very soft and smooth to the touch.  I'm usually biased toward cotton in lolita, but this is a really nice polyester and I'm happy it won't wrinkle as easily.

She also included care instructions in English and in Korean.

And an extra button along with a fabric swatch.

Overall I'm very pleased with this dress.  The only thing I thought was odd was that it zips on the right side, when I'm used to dresses zipping on the left.  But that's not really a flaw, just a note that surprised me ^^

As a bonus, here's the coordinate I planned for when I get a chance to wear this jsk.
