I found these strappy shoes for just $6 on sale at Forever 21 and thought they could be very simply made over by relacing the ties with ribbon (like Victorian Maiden shoes!). I think this is a fairly common shoe style, so this project could probably be completed with thrift store finds!
I picked a ribbon that was over 1" wide, as I didn't want it to become too gapped in the lacing. One shoe used up about 3-3.5 yards of ribbon. The satiny finish and contrast color in the one I picked here I thought would give the shoe a more elegant vibe^^
I used a piece of electrical tape to tightly bind one end of the ribbon into a point to thread the shoes with. I would recommend using a very small piece of a sturdy type of tape, like duct tape, packing tape or electrical tape. Make sure not to make it too big or it won't fit through the holes!
First, I just laced the shoes, ignoring the way it looked until after the ribbon was all the way through.
Afterwards I went through and loosened parts and untwisted parts to make them look more even and fuller.
I then cut the ends of the ribbon to my desired length, cutting on the bias. Later, I will finish the ribbon ends more by singeing them with a match.
Here they are in a coord:
And here were two variations I was thinking of:
Thanks for looking!
