Unusual Lolita Epiphany

I just wanted to share a little part of my Lolita journey, which is setting me on a new path in Lolita! I'd also love to hear your "AHA!" moments, too!

So, Ladies and Gents, I had an interesting epiphany this week. Lolita Transformation was the theme in May, but all of a sudden it's hit home late. XD

I started off thinking I was going to be a hard-core sweet Lolita. Cut and dry, pink and prints for me! I made a handful of simple dresses and skirts, usually pink/white/black, and then I got my first brand piece, a BABY LP. All well and good, plain black JSK, amazing classic-ish blouse, and figured, "still sweet enough for me." And then I got Merry Making Party. I was so excited for my first AP dress, had to try it right on, and then~ nothing. XD I liked the print, it was so pretty in person, but I didn't feel pretty in it.

I tried it on again a couple days later, figuring I was just tired and couldn't appreciate it then. Still~ nothing. XD Then my friend enlightened me.

Her: "You are def more a classic lolita"
Me: WHAT? How so? Well toned-down sweet at least
Her: "Nah even your sweeter stuff is floral or more traditional victorian. Being pink doesnt necrssarily mean sweet" "Ah. Even from the beginning though you were never sure about yourself in Sweet"

So I was hysterically surprised to discover that I actually dislike AP's sugar-sweet. And that I'm really more into the mature, Classic side of Lolita. XD
Anyone else have an interesting story to their "Lolita Style self-discovery?" I'd love to hear about how you figured out what style was right for you. Apparently I was a bit slow on the uptake. XD Hopefully I can sell my MMP set and someone else can love it more than me!
