I already know that lolitas don't have the best reputation in Japan, especially as those reactions can be 'it's cute' to 'you don't ever want to be seen by your co-workers outside of work in lolita', but saying that repressed kids become lolitas to rebel is a new one to me.
... or somebody might be trolling. :P Up to yesterday, the shoujo page on Wikipedia had this sentence stuck in: 'Anything non-offensive and featuring female characters may class as shojo', so it might just be a troll. It's not that I don't believe repressed kids choose to be lolitas, it's more the fact that the article (without even citing anything!) seems to suggest all lolitas are repressed kids.
