Is a JSK inspired by a video game character inspired by lolita lolita, or very inaccurate cosplay?
I've been reading back through
sew_loli and daydreaming about things I'd like to make, eventually, and I've realized that I know exactly what I want my first major project to be - but I'm not sure if it would be too cosplay-y to wear outside of cons. /:
There's a video game character I'm rather fond of who... well, she's called a lolita, but her character design is more lolita-inspired. I really kind of envy her clothes, though, and I've been thinking it would be so much fun! to make them for myself, but redesigned to better fit the style.
This is the design in question, by the way. If I made a JSK and bolero inspired by that, but shorter and with a more strictly lolita silhouette, different sleeves (...what is even going on with her arms I don't even), a less maid-y headdress and 100% fewer stabby accessories...
Would that be lolita? Or would it still be cosplay?
I'd use high-quality materials and coordinate it with better shoes and OTK socks instead of stockings, and switch up the accessories a little. (Are ankle bracelets - the non-spiky kind, I mean - ever done in lolita?) And this whole thing is really highly hypothetical at this point, but it's been on my mind a lot lately, and there's no harm in asking, right?
