kurasune and I organized this year's ILD meetup again down at Spanish Banks Extension - a lovely bit of grass and beach near UBC. We didn't end up spending any time in the sand or water but we had some good old fashioned Sports Day type fun.I got to the site very early to snag us prime location - the wind however blew most of my curls away lol. So Kurasune and I setup a nice tent over the picnic table and laid out all the food (all of it was handmade by us :) except the hotdogs which the menfolk BBQed for us to eat) and the almond choco croissants which were very generously donated by Fur Elise (go check them out - the owners are very nice people and the food they gave us very yummy)

I made all the sweets (besides those yummy croissants) and kurasune made all the savories. Vanilla cupcakes with fondant icing above (yup made the fondant too...wow it's a bit of a time sink but tastes much better than store bought). As soon as people arrived they tucked right into the food :) from what I remember hearing people liked pretty much all of it.

(photo by cidien) - of course some people arrive late - that's me in the Meta Berry Stripe (you won't see me in many photos) - thank god also for the tent thingy. Kept the bugs off the food and lessened the wind somewhat as well as providing much needed shade.
I actually got very busy and couldn't take many photos at all so I've nicked a few from some from cidien (as you can see). I know a few others posted photos so I may add some more if people want to see them. Since it was sunny many parasols were brought...we had a mini pile of them in the corner of the tent.

Overall it was a lovely day, not too hot because of the wind but very sunny - I missed a spot with the sunscreen and now have a 'C' shaped sunburn...guess it's ok since Canucks are in the finals right now ;) Not sure what we'll do next time but hopefully it'll be just as fun. Anyways by way of activities we held 4 races. Egg and Spoon race, Relay race, 3-legged race and a mini cupcake eating contest.
First Race - Egg & Spoon:

Race 2: Lolita Relay Race:
The race consisted of 4 parts. Each team had 4 members. The first had to gather about 15 plastic balls into their skirt and run around a cone and across to the other end where 2 of their team members waited. The next girl had to balance a teacup on her head, curtsy at the halfway mark and then walk to the other end. The third girl had to use the jump rope and run across again and then secure a toilet paper ribbon around the last girl's waist. Once done the last girl ran across to the finish line.

Race 3 - Three Legged Race:
Girls paired off here and we tied their adjoining ankles with some wide ribbon. We let the girls adjust the ribbon so it was comfy...
on your mark...get set...GO!
We had some mishap with some of the ribbon it seems XD but it was all good fun anyways
Race 4: Mini Cupcake Eating Contest:
We had originally planned on having contestants eat 12 mini cupcakes but it looks like we fed everyone too much XD so we cut it down to 6 and had 4 girls participate: loli_scarecrow, purinyappykura, helena, and claire (not sure if you two ladies have LJ IDs)

Later these two gents appeared - they were BBQing next to us and were curious and apparently were friends of a friend of someone's. They however did stay to chat (wanted to participate in the 3-legged race but no one to partner with) and mix us a few drinks (for those who were of age of course). We seemed to luck out and only meet many nice people.

Anyhoo bonus day before prep photo...this was only a fraction of the cupcakes made for ILD. We made way too much food though so we ended up making many friends at the beach by sharing (about 72 mini cupcakes and whatever remaining large ones) with neighbouring groups. FYI I forgot to take photos of the goodie bags and corsages I made for everyone...if anyone has a photo of it I'd love to get it from you.
