Off-white and Black Lumiebre Crest Parasol Review

Hello lolitas!

I never seen a detailed review of these parasols on the community before, so I thought I would make one once my two orders came in.

I bought these two umbrellas as an alternative to a brand one because I thought the shipping a bit outrageous for sites like Baby, plus I also read a lot of comments about running prints associated with brand parasols. Lumbiebre parasols also double as umbrellas, too, and scuttlebutt says they're super well-made.

I initially ordered an off-white one, in the "crest" style (see link). The shipping seemed cheap, according to the shipping calculator located on the product page that estimated it to be $14. I expected to be paying about $60 total for the parasol with $46 for base price being reasonable since that is around the same as brand parasols. Unfortunately, I ended up paying $26 for 'carriage'shipping instead--making the total $72 instead of the $60. I was caught unaware by this, and I suggest anyone ordering from them ask for the true shipping and fee amount. When checking out, the Rakuten site did not mention any other price besides the 3900Y for the parasol so be careful when ordering.

The ordering process itself was very simple via the English site, and the customer service was very speedy and got back to e-mails in 24 hours with competent English. The site is easy to navigate, and I would not hesitate to buy from Lumiebre or another shop on Rakuten again. Plus, the point system is pretty handy if you plan on ordering on it a lot.

The parasol ships via EMS and it comes EXTREMELY fast considering it's from Japan. My parasols arrived in exactly 4 days each and I live in Los Angeles. The processing time before hand is less than a day. It arrived at my dorm's customer service center in a large elongated cardboard box saying Lumiebre on it.

Now please ignore the rather drab surroundings of my dorm room. D: I am but a poor college freshman from out of state with no car in California which means no cute decorations. Also, my dorms pretty dark so the colors might look off due to the flash used. Look at the product's site for better pictures of the true colors.

I proceeded to snip off the two plastic yellow ties, opened up the box while getting pretty excited about getting what I thought would be my white parasol only to be greeted with...

A black version of the parasol I wanted instead of the white one I ordered! I was first mildly distraught about it, until it actually worked in my favor in the end (read on!).

Now the parasol is packaged in a way that it's pretty hard to have the product get injured. It's covered in plastic, and positioned so it doesn't bump against the box's sides too much, as you can see from the above image.

They also included 2 postcards, a hand written note, an envelope with their logo on it, and instructions on how to use the parasol :B. I was very happy to see these small touches.

The note written says, "Nicole Nguyen (my name), I am manager Ae. Thank you for far ordering from the U. S. A. I am very glad. It is a popular umbrella in Japan. I hope it will be your favorite. Thank you. -Lumiebre/Kumiko Ae." I thought this was really cute. :'D

Okay onto the parasol's details!

If you click on the link to the original product, you'll see that that the bones are aluminum and very solidly built, the handle is covered with nice faux leather that comes covered with plastic to protect the leather, it has a pagoda silhouette with three-tiers of ruffles at the edges with the second one being tulle, with the crest design every other panel on the outside. The design makes it so it looks pretty neat from the top or when it's closed which then it creates a slight swirl pattern. The tip of the parasol at the top is covered by a metal cap to protect it as well. The fastener that keeps the parasol closed is a button and loop design that makes it very easy when going in and outdoors to put up or get out your parasol. It opens and closes like a normal full-sized umbrella which is you push up to open it (when it clicks, you know you've succeeded) and you pinch the part that you push it to close it and pull it back down. I've always been scared of these type of umbrellas because I think they're going to close on me while I'm under them but Lumiebre does a good job with giving you peace of mind about it.

I really like the black parasol, but I still wanted my white one! So I e-mailed Lumiebre about the wrong product sent. They got back to me, apologized for sending the wrong products and said they would send the correct one--but mentioned a possible custom fee I might have to pay. I asked them more about that, and they apologized again and said I wouldn't have to pay it. (???) They were really pleasant about it! The shipping number was given, and my white parasol was finally on its way. Basically, I got two parasols for the price of one--6120Y or $73. Niiice.

Four days passed, and it was in LA just like the last parasol. This next part is not Lumiebre's fault at all, but my school's postal service fault. D: USPS attempted delivery twice on the fourth day, I went down to my dorm's customer service center (CSC) to ask about it which they gave me a vague answer about not receiving anything because they might have been out. I tried to have USPS do redelivery or pick up, but I needed the paper slip that USPS leaves when they miss the receiver. Unfortunately, the CSC didn't have that so I called my school's main mail place which was in vain since no one picked up the phone. I shot the main mail place an e-mail, which they got back to me a few days later saying they got it and will forward it to my dorm. I ended up waiting quite a bit longer than I would've normally, but I was happy to have finally received my package.

Anyhoo, it came in the same packaging with a note that apologized for the mishap and a fancy envelope, but instead of 2 postcards--they gave me a cute charm! I promptly put it on my rather ugly dorm/room/chemistry lab locker/student ID/mailbox keyring to brighten it up. It's a little black tassel with a black and white plastic rectangle with the Lumiebre logo on it. You can see a better picture of it on the above product site.

Now despite the pictures, it really is off-white. Not too creamy, but not stark white either. Just something to keep in mind if you decide to order it.  It's the exact same as the black parasol so I'll skip the description except for one very strange thing...

Okay I'll try to explain the next part to the best of my ability. Now with the white umbrella, the top spring doesn't go underneath the runner like with the black one, as the top spring doesn't line up with the slit in the runner (and instead sits next to the bottom edge of it perpendicularly) and doesn't have a plastic piece over the runner that presses down on the top spring when you need to close it even if it did line up.  Instead, the slit in the runner lines up with the bottom spring.  This leads me having to press down on the top spring with one hand while pulling down the runner instead of just pressing down on the plastic thing on the runner which presses the top spring underneath and pulling the runner down, closing the umbrella like on the black one.

img828.imageshack.us/img828/5510/img2567hw.jpg See how the top spring doesn't line up with the runner slit, and that it's missing a plastic thing over it that you press down to close the umbrella?

img85.imageshack.us/img85/7871/img2569pz.jpg This is how it looks on the black parasol. The top spring is lined up and covered by the plastic thing in the runner so it works correctly when pressed down.

This itself isn't such a big deal, but it is worth mentioning. I'm still not sure if it's supposed to do that on purpose, but it's still a hassle.

All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase. The product is very sturdy, has a bit of weight to it and holds well in the wind, all the small details on it make it luxurious, the price isn't too bad, customer service is amazing, and shipping is super fast. Bad things include the shipping price being higher than a thought, and the wonky closing mechanism on my white parasol. I would definitely recommend Lumiebre if someone wants an alternative to brand parasols!

Hope the review was detailed enough, and if anyone has anyone questions about the product or wants anymore pictures--go ahead and ask!

EDIT: D: Tried to explain the opening/closing mechanism difference between the white and black parasol more clearly.

EDIT again: Clarified total price and shipping costs.
