Remember, You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile
Over the years I've seen so many different "is this loli" or "can I make this lolita with some bows and frills" post on this comm. I just wanted to step in and say that I think one should wear what you like, whether some agree that it's lolita or not. Lolita is both a fashion and a style, it's a template. You can add things on and take things off. What's important is that you are happy with what you're doing. Whether that means having dreadlocks, flip-flops, frilly necklaces, etc. As long as they are things you like and you find it aesthetically pleasing, go for it! I personally adore my engineer boots, and I design skirts to go with them because it's what I like.
Lolita is something that is often frowned upon or looked at as different yet so many say you can and can't do things within it. I feel as long as you follow the basic silhouette, have fun and do what you want! There's no point in doing something if it involves taking all of who you are out of it. If you enjoy curled up wigs and pure Victorian Maiden outfit, go for it. If you don't, take what you do love and go with that. Have fun, life is way too serious without making clothing something to stress over.
EDIT: My point wasn't that anything and everything can be lolita, but that many things can be incorporated into it. Some say I am stating the obvious, I personally think that sometimes the "obvious" isn't really so.
