How do you hunt for a set?

While it might be easier to buy a full, matching 'set' from a site when it comes out, not all of us are so quick or so lucky.

I know posting a WTB on the community sales is a good bet, but it's not always going to reveal the best results. Have you guys found a tried and true way to find all the pieces of a a set? I've been scanning the auction sites that you need shopping services for, but I don't really know how to navigate around, and I can't exactly type in "memorial cake" in English and have it come up with much : )

Are there any of you who've been searching for a certain piece ... for ages? Share your storiesss
