Well-Meaning Loved Ones

I am very lucky in that all my family is supportive of lolita. One of my sisters has even become a lolita with me. However, my other sister just accepts it as my new "thing", and has begun buying me "lolita" presents. First, she bought me a pair of bowed thigh-highs from Hot Topic. I felt bad, because I knew I'd never wear them with lolita; but they were only about six bucks, so I thanked her and got over it. Now, she brought me back from California a Hot Topic tutu-skirt. I hardly think I need to explain further. And this was 40USD! Not incredibly expensive, no, but I could buy much nicer things with that, and my sister isn't rich.

Now, I've already figured out how I'm going to use both those things in my next Halloween costume, but I don't want her to keep wasting her money on things that I'm most likely not going to use. So my questions: how do you tell loved ones that what they are buying is not lolita appropriate without screaming "This is a lace monstrosity, not lolita!"? What do you do with what they've already bought you? Please share your own experiences!
