After cruising around on Bodyline for a while last night, I found that I really, really enjoy a lot of their new items. Their designs are getting cuter and cuter, the little candy print skirt/jsk they offer is absolutely adorable, and the quality really isn't so poor; while it's not as thick or professional as 'real brand' clothing (when I mention 'real brand', i'm talking about some of the big names like Btssb or AP or Meta or MMM, stuff like that), it doesn't look shabby.
More than that, I adore how Bodyline is a little more fun and quirky than some of the larger brands; they really do pander to their overseas customers (that free shipping program was AMAZING for group orders), and their contests make me more interested in checking their site with frequency. The modeling contest is always a lot of fun to watch/enter/HOPE FOR, their design contest was pretty cool, and their sales (while often ... not actually happening) are pretty frequent.
Above all, I can get a JSK, 2 skirts, a blouse and a pair of socks for under the price of ONE BTSSB jsk. I can stock my wardrobe with adorable clothing to wear out and feel proud to wear, and even though they're not 'brand name', I feel like I can be a 'good' lolita by wearing their outfits, coordinating them in my own way, ect. I know a lot of girls can pull off the most amazing coordinates by using all off brand/hand made/thrifted items, but I'm really not so great with that, so Bodyline is the best option for me (considering my family is not wealthy, and ... I work at a video store. LOL).
With all of these great things going for them, you'd expect Bodyline not to just be a hit, but an up-and-coming big brand name, right?
General concensus here on EGL, from what I can tell, is that bodyline isn't associated with the bigger lolita brands, even though I'm sure many closets around the world are filled with it. Buying bodyline doesn't have the same feel as buying 'burando', because to us, it isn't TRUE brand. I find that a lot of times, I find myself thinking/saying "okay, it IS bodyline, but it's actually pretty nice!", as if I'm expecting a bad response from it.
So, EGL, why do you think that bodyline isn't/won't be considered burando?
Beyond that, I was thinking about ways that Bodyline could improve themselves to look more professional, and here's what I came up with:
1. A Nicer Site.
The site, to me, looks really tacky with the yellow and red plain text on the harsh black background. Btssb's site looks clean and cute, with their items easy to find by more simple categories. If bodyline were to re-vamp it's website, I think it might just look better over all.
2. Out with the old!
The poor quality, bad-lace, old garments from years ago should be removed from the site, I think. It makes them look bad *A*
3. Cut Down.
It seems like Bodyline carries a lot of ... random stuff. Not necessarily OLD stuff, but like, really random things? I don't know if they sell like the lolita does, but they've got this great big section for China Dresses, and then for Maid Dresses, and then for Cosplay, and then for, urhm, Love Dream, and then Casual Clothes? And then eyelashes and ... contacts? In order to be a real 'lolita brand', I think Bodyline might have to get rid of those, or at least put them elsewhere (...but keep the eyelashes. that's pretty cool.)
What do you think Bodyline could do to improve themselves?
EDIT: after reading some of the comments, i'm once again surprised o__o;; a little hot under the peterpan collars are we today, ladies? XD; then again, haha, i'm not shocked~ .__.; I just intended this to be a discussion. there was talk about how EGL was getting a little more boring and required some variety, so I was hoping that it would add a bit of content? i apologize to the mods (especially those who've made their opinion clear on bodyline related matters) for having to read through this, if it is a hassle, i just thought it would be neat to talk about. *A* i didn't think i had to ask people to be nice, lol..
