I really hate doing this, and I really don't want to seem like I'm pointing a finger at anyone, but I'm completely lost as to how to handle this.
I recently ordered a parasol off of the sales community. I was really excited for it, because it's my first brand parasol. When I picked it up at the post office, though, I noticed that the package was bent and flopped around loosely. When I opened it, I saw that the handle of the parasol had snapped completely, and the casing around the snap had ripped almost completely.
The parasol was only wrapped in packing paper and bubble wrap when it was shipped, so there was really nothing to protect it from breaking... but my problem is there was no insurance on the package. It's my fault there was no insurance, I didn't think to ask for it because when I ship something out, I always insure it...so I juse assumed it would be insured. I realize now that I shouldn't have assumed, but that doesn't help me.
I don't know what to do about it now, though.. I really don't want to cause a conflict, or upset the person I bought it from by posting this, but I'm desperate for some advice. I have contacted the seller, and she DID apologize, and said that she's sent a parasol before wrapped the same way without any problem.
What should I do? Am I completely at fault here because I didn't ask for insurance, or is there something I can do?
EDIT: Thank you all for your input! I thought hard about your advice, and asked the seller if she would be willing to go half with me. Unfortunately the most she would offer was $5, and she sited again that she'd never had a problem wrapping a parasol that way before.. I'm not happy with it, but she was at least polite and apologetic, and I guess I'll just have to look at this as a learning experience. I'm not sure if the parasol is fix-able or not, I'm going to look into it, but I suppose if I can't fix it I can at least try to make it into a decoration or something--I don't want it to be a total loss.
