A LITTLE LOLITA HISTORY & RELATED TOPICS HELP?

So for my Design & Society class I'm writing a paper on Lolita Fashion. I need to discuss the history of it and how it came to be as well as how it affects contemporary culture. My professor wants me to relate it to cosplay (ack!) and manga culture as well and I know nothing about that...help!

A little help or some ideas? I'd really appreciate it =)
Why do YOU dress in lolita?
What are some issues that concern lolita today? (Pros/Cons)
