1st-Jun-2015 05:09 pm - [sticky post] Newbie Notes- June 1-7, 2015

Hi there, and welcome to this week's edition of Newbie Notes. This is EGL's weekly help thread- please feel free to ask any basic questions here for assistance from our mods and members!

This week, we have an adorable video tutorial for a cute rose headband from YouTube user SecretLifeofaBioNerd! Though this tutorial is a bit old, it seems appropriate to share considering the recent popularity of classic lolita. This would be adorable to match a toned-down classic coordinate, and could even work for a sweet look if you whipped one up in pastel shades!

Check out the tutorial here!

If you have any questions or concerns, please ask them in the appropriate space in the comment thread. Otherwise, the floor is open for any questions regarding the fashion!

18th-May-2013 09:10 pm - Help please?
Does anyone know where I can get size 26 cm shoes? Bodyline barely has any in the right size and its all crazy colors.
Clobba does it but the process is so complicated. Should I just suck it up and go to Payless and wear flats?

(Sorry about first post btw.)
31st-Jan-2013 05:18 pm - Is this a replica?
I just stumbled across some lovely gothic lolita style gear on and was struck by how familiar some designs looked and wanted to ask the more experienced gals - are they replicas [I'm thinking they kinda look like Moitie] or just similar?
Links under the cut.Collapse )
I know the debate about print replicas has been discussed up and down, but I'm curious to know how people feel about non print replicas. Specifically about shoes and purses, but also about dress designs and other things like that.

I feel really uncomfortable buying replica shoes... I went to my first meet and a girl ranted about replica shoes, so now I feel really nervous wearing and buying them, like I'm doing something wrong even if they're not illegal! I'm afraid other lolitas will look down on me if I wear them.

But as a new lolita I buy most items secondhand, and I have a hard time finding non-replica shoes in my size (L). I know Bodyline is an option, but I don't like supporting them because of their bad business practices. As for Taobao, I don't know if there are any shops that make original sweet lolita shoes and I know there are a lot of replica shops. I'm not familiar with every lolita shoe and I am wary of buying there because I don't want to accidentally buy a replica. I could be sure of not getting a replica if I bought straight from AP, but $150-$200 feels really expensive for a pair of fake leather shoes. As a sweet lolita, I feel like my only alternative is replicas since pink, white, and sax shoes are so hard to find.

So I guess what I'm wondering is, how do most lolitas feel about non print replicas? Do you think they're okay? Do you not like them but buy them anyways since there aren't other options? Do you think they're bad? Do you look down on people for wearing them? Can you even tell the difference between replica shoes and real brand shoes? Because I can't!

I haven't seen a lot of discussion on this topic so I'm wondering how people feel about it!

(Sorry mods, I've been a long time lurker but I'm a first-time poster... please let me know if I did everything right!)
24th-Aug-2012 02:26 am - I have a conundrum :\
I'm really having trouble getting a clear answer, everyone says something differentl. I really want the Milky Planet JSK, and I think it looks really cute in yellow. However I do have blond hair and pale skin. Would it look very cute or weird?? And if so what other color would be better?
Thanks, us pale people need help DX
8th-Aug-2012 09:23 am - New note on the AP homepage?
A Chipmunk
I was checking out the English AP website this morning, and I was surprised to see that they added a blurb to the homepage like Innocent World had:

Dear Angelic Pretty Valued Customers,
Angelic Pretty is aware of that there is a lot of concerns regarding counterfeits / replicas.
We officially do not condone these types of illegal behaviors.
We will actively pursue those who continue these illegal activities.
We appreciate all of the customers who support Angelic Pretty.

Thank you for your understanding,
Angelic Pretty

What I found more surprising however, is that it looks like it's even on the main Japanese site too (I don't know how long it's been there; I usually use the Japanese site to look at new items, but I can't read Japanese and usually only bother running Google translate on actual item pages...)

and it looks like it's on their US homepage too.

There's been a lot of talk about how they are probably one of the brands most targeted for replicas, but up until now, they haven't really been that public about their stance on the issue, and so I thought it was rather interesting that they put up something.

It's been mentioned before that such statements are not often issued by Japanese companies because the culture there is not as direct about things. So, it's interesting to see how the brands, like AP and IW have sort of adapted to the international stage as they expand their markets in this way (as well as in other ways, like the addition of size L blouses and English sites from both brands, for example). It makes me sort of wonder what other changes we might see in operation and products as they increasingly expand to become global companies.

To the people who are against them, is it only the main articles (OPs, JSKs, Skirts) or does it extend to other things, such as purses, shoes, head-dresses, and accessories? It's something I've wondered about for a while now >.<

So while I was browsing Taobao and trying to see if Dream of Lolita would tell anyone when they were shipping off their Vampire Requiem replicas (my shopping service said the end of August, but not to expect anything because they had so many delays), I see...

... that they don't know how mirrors work.

I think.

Hi all,

Just a short note - if you are buying something from our sales comm, and are buying replicas or knockoffs or anything of the sort, please don't title your transactions with the word "replica" or "counterfeit" or related.

I've just been contacted by Paypal, and my account has been limited because I just cleared a transaction on the sales comm that involved some replica shoes. My buyer had unwittingly titled the transaction with the word "replica". They sent me a long email telling me that I was not allowed to trade and transact counterfeit items, and demanded some details regarding the transaction. I also had to "sign" an electronic affidavit to show that I understood the agreement and would no longer deal with counterfeit products.

I've since emailed them to tell them that they were shoes that I obtained from Taobao and was reselling cos they didn't fit me.

I'll update as the situation moves along.

Edit: My account was reinstated the very day that I sent along all the required info, without any other investigation. It seriously puzzles me why they even had to flag my account in the first place, if they were just ready to take my word for it.

So after the release of the Milky Planet Reps I was wondering if anyone knew the current going value of the original skirt?

Cut for fabric swatchCollapse )

What do you think? To me the fabric swatch looks a bit off colour-wise, the white seems to harsh.
As an owner of two VRs myself I'm actually a bit displeased that they now start making replicas of AatP prints, but what do you guys think?
It is still not clear what kinds of dresses will be made and which colourways, but will you be getting one?
11th-Apr-2011 06:14 pm - Replicas - art and design.
Hello to all. There were many discussions about replicas, but my situation is a bit different. I don't mind replica owners, but for some reasons can't justify buying one for myself (though I own and love a few that I got in my early lolita-days). But I really like the color combo of the SC lavander skirt and am thinking of getting it to re-sew into a ruffle miniskirt. What do you think? Would it still be the same replica case, or not, since the item design is drastically different from brand?

UPD. After little thought I decided that I'll simply commission some fabric with my own pastel design - cost wise it's the same and I'll sleep well at night. Thanks for the comments, they were a trigger to a better solution.
Hello! My name is Brianne, and I'm new to this site but have been doing lolita for some time. Unfortunately, I don't have much money to spend on it so I only have three dresses, and I'm always trying to find the cutest, but cheapest dresses so I can pay for things I need (Apartment, college, books for college, food, ect).

Which brings me to my question. It's been knawing at me for awhile. Sites like and why are they so cheap? I see the same exact dresses other places for much steeper prices, and I mean the exact same dresses.

I've ordered from Milanno once, before I had suspicions and thought I had found some secret cheap site that was totally legit, but not lolita. School girl outfits. They all came in the right size and perfectly well-made for the most part.

But what's the deal? My friend and I both have a knawing feeling in our guts that these sites aren't on the up-and-up. Our minds went to child labor, and it really frightens and upsets me to think that because I own some of their stuff (the schoolgirl outfits), and I'd really hate myself if children really were being exploited.

Are they just good old-fashion knock offs? Or is something worse going on here?
