EGL Friday Free for All!

Welcome to the EGL Free for All!

Please take this as an opportunity to get to know your fellow EGL members outside of lolita. You can post WHATEVER you fancy!

Do bear the following rules in mind:

ALL rules of EGL still apply! Be courteous and polite. No flamming/spamming/trolling, etc.

Keep it P-G. Remember that there are minors here!

Max of 5 images per post, please. And please keep them to a reasonable size!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please reply to the first comment in this post.

And a couple of reminders:

The EGL Free for All will be every Monday and Friday. Twice a week, twice the fun!

Monday's FFAs are for lolitas outside of the USA, thus the posting time for Monday's FFA is different from Friday's FFA

The EGL Friending Meme is the first Friday of every month!

Also a gentle reminder: everyone who participates in the FFA are responsible for their own posts. We do not monitor or police the posts in this thread. That said, we'd like to encourage everyone to refrain from posting illegal materials, such as movie streaming or file sharing. Livejournal is not a suitable place for those things. Thanks!

Current FFA volunteers:
deleciel (USA)
stupsy (Germany)
rainedragon (USA)
roozumari (UK)
Feel free to PM us with questions!

Question: Angelic Pretty Glass Doll?

Over the past few months, I've come across pictures of AP's Glass Doll series and I'm a little confused as to when it's being released (if it hasn't been already).

I'm rather fond of the JSK and OP, so I googled them to see when they had been released, but I didn't find anything about them on any of the AP websites or on EGL. So at first I assumed the series hadn't been released yet.

But the thing that's throwing me off is that the AP USA web-shop had Glass Doll blouses in stock a few weeks ago, but nothing else from the series. I've also seen one or two people on Tumblr with the JSK.

I didn't want to have to resort to asking here, but I'm a little desperate, as this dress is pretty high up on my wishlist and I can't seem to find any information about it. Any info you might have would be hugely appreciated! Thanks! c:

According to the rules, your petti should never be seen, always hidden under your skirt.
But I love my petti and I love playing with this fashion ♥

Wearing petticoat instead of a skirt

Wearing petticoat to be seen on purpose under my skirt

Wearing petticoat on a skirt!

Anyone else doing this? Please contact me via facebook PM or contact me through SMS on my cell (posted to the FB page) to be put on the list for pickup.

I will need the following information:
a) Your full name
b) The name that will be on your con-badge (if different)
c) Your contact information, preferably cell number, so that we can contact you about pickup

Tickets for pickup are $20 cash, to be paid at time of pickup. Karen will be meeting up with pre-buyers. You will receive a paper copy of your ticket as proof of purchase. If we text or call and don't receive a reply by the evening, your ticket will be forfeited and you will have to buy a ticket at the door to the Cafe, pending availability. Sorry for any inconvenience!

2) If you are unavailable for Saturday pickup, have missed the pickup, or are unsure about coming, you can come by the Orchid cafe early (approx 45-30 mins) to buy tickets at the door, pending availability.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

For any questions and concerns, feel free to check our FAQ page here or email us at anlolitateaparty@gmail.com

(art for the tea party by swtgreentea)

breaking the rules

Another breaking the rules post. This one was for the 'no animal ears' rule.
I tired to do a gothic deer themed outfit.

I tired to do some 'fawn inspired' make up. It turned out okay....

That day it actually ended up being 90F outside.
So there weren't too many pictures taken due to the heat.

I hope you enjoy the post!

Two important questions new indie brand needs your help ;)

Hello again!
Thanks for your help so far. I really learned a lot.But i need your assistance one more time :D
I plan my next steps for my indie label at the moment. So i have two important questions. If you need any more informations just ask ^__^

1. Would you accept a pre-order phase for a printed dress?
I want to offer three size groups for onesize items with shirring. For other items, without shirring/multi-size items i want to offer customization and three standard sizes. And i want also to offer 4 color choices of the dresses with my own print (you can see it on our facebook page: http://facebook.com/starpirates)
Before the Pre-Order phase starts i will sew preview items. This should be clear :) They will be shown on different models. One with a onepiece, one model with the jsk (and a blouse) and the other with the skirt (and another blouse xD). Every piece will have one other color way. In my opinion it's the best way to show the dresses. You will have to pay 50% of the total price. After i finished the dress/skirt you have to pay the other 50%.
Would that be ok? Because i often read that a pre-order phase isn't ok for an indie brand. I also can show my other projects, some reviews and some comissions as an example of my work and as a proof that i can sew and design :)

2. What would you pay for a printed skirt, jsk or/and onepiece from an indie brand?
It will be well printed and well sewn. The quality will be good of course. The Dresses will have a lining. The items will be made of cotton fabrics. The different laces will be made of cotton, too. All seams will be checked twice.
I'm calculating a lot and want to minimize the costs, so i can offer a nice item for a fair price.

Introducing our new brand

Hello everyone ! We would like to introduce you our new Lolita Indie Brand form Belgium (Europe).

Who are we?: We are 2 Belgian lolita who decided to make our dream come true after our ordinary work.

Lady Momochi is our dressmaker: She makes custom clothes on demand sins one year at her own shop "Momochi's Room". She is a lolita sins 5 years and love the romantic looking of the lolita fashion, the history inspired behind those clothes. Also, she likes the well dressed look of it.

Mayku (M.W) is our print designer: She is a Concept Artist / Character Designer in the video game sector. She loves the 18th century area and she is lolita sins 13 years. She lived for 3 years in Japan and for 5 years in Paris. Her dream is to own historical handmade dresses but because it's too expensive to own one for now and also too hard to go out dressed like Marie Antoinette, her choice goes to hime lolita for the everyday life.

We both like History, paintings and lolita. It's why we wanted to make a indie brand together to make our dream lolita clothes come true and also propose it to the public.

Rose Trianon

Why Rose Trianon ? : Le grand et le petit Trianon where the castles near Versailles where Marie Antoinette, Madame De Pompadour and a lot of our loved History Characters enjoyed they life, away from the protocols. "Rose" is because we love that flower and/or that color.

Your brand ? : We want to propose lolita or lolita - historical inspired clothes. We have 2 types of prints, one made of remodeling or recoloring paintings (inspired by J&J brand) or Hand draw prints based on what we like at the time.

Our clothes are handmade so it take a bit time to be done but we put all our love in each piece, making them, finding the fabrics, the laces...

We also propose printed tights, we don't make or print the tights but me make the print design. We order them when we reach 50 pre order pieces at last to have a decent price.

Finally we live in Europe, so the euro money is quite high and don't help us to have the same prices than some Asians or American Indies brands. But we hope that all the passion that we put in our work will keep our brand alive.

Find us soon on EGL sales ! (still waiting approval of the feedback) or on facebook, twitter, trumblr, Storenvy.

Also we will be at the French lolita convention this 7 and 8 July in Paris. Come see us if you past in the city of love this summer !

Empress Eugenie JSK and Skirt

Mucha & Co.
Sizing question: IW Charles Crown JSK

I've got a question that goes to everyone who owns or has owned the Charles Crown JSK. :(
I have fallen in love with this one, but wasn't able to get it the first time. When it came back to the page again, I heard that the re-release was significantly smaller than the first one.
Now my question is, how true to stated size does the first release run? I have a link to Lolibrary here: http://lolibrary.org/node/9589
Is that what you would say does fit? I want to have an approx. estimate how high my chances are that I could fit the dress.

Question regarding Mary Magdalene's Farutetto JSK!

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone who owns this JSK

http://lolibrary.org/node/10287

Can tell me how that back bustle is created? It looks like it's pinned up at the back at two locations but while there are two tie-able bows at the back, there are no overt/obvious ways to pin the skirt up. Since the stock photos specifically indicated that the back can be pinned up for a bustled look (in conjunction with a special bustle petti to give that back bump of course), I would've thought that the JSK itself would have some kind of mechanism for that. Sort of like how the Atelier Pierrot bustle high waist jsk's or skirts have strings to create the pull up/drape affect of the bustle skirt.

In any case, if it turns out it's just a matter of pinning it manually with safety pins, then that's fine as well. I was just wondering if I'm missing something obvious lol.

Thank you!!

Okay, we're done here.

Okay, I'm done with this thread.
Thank you to everyone for your support, and also thank you to those of you who disagreed. I heard a lot of sound arguments on both sides, and I feel better.
If you have anything you really want to say still, you can message me. However, I am closing this, because it seems like the longer this drags on, the more and more it becomes twisted. I keep seeing misunderstandings over and over.
So thank you everyone for your input. I'll consider it all carefully. And as always, I appreciate EGL for being unbiased, even towards their own fashion, and able to give good advice. ^^

Warning: A little long. C:

Okay, I had a little altercation at school today that involved me wearing lolita, and I want some opinions on this. Please read carefully so that you understand.

Warning: A little long. C:

Okay, I had a little altercation at school today that involved me wearing lolita, and I want some opinions on this. Please read carefully so that you understand.

Before I can talk about what happened, you need a little background information.
First of all, I have panic attacks if I'm forced to speak with unfamiliar adults alone, especially if I am in trouble or in any way emotionally unhappy about the situation I'm meeting them in. It's happened before with my counselor, so she knows about what happens, but even she does not understand the immediacy of the situation when it happens, and does understand that I need to be left alone not for just a short time, but for good. I also had a freak out last year where I was brought into a room with a bunch of teachers to talk about my grades, and I told them never to do anything like that. They apparently did not remember.

The second thing you need to know is that I'm incredibly introverted. I do not like to draw attention to myself. I do not speak at all in class, and I hate random people paying attention to me, because then I have to engage in small talk, which is the bane of my existence.

Okay. Now, I can tell you what happened.

I've always loved learning and think education is important, but I think that schools need to recognized their poor introverted students and see that they cannot expect us to thrive in an obviously extrovert oriented environment. I've dealt with this my whole life, and it makes school exhausting and miserable for me. Being close to graduation, way behind in school, and stressed, I am at the peak of my annoyance. I thought I'd wear lolita to school today, because I really needed that, and I needed to be able to carrying around something to make me happy and feel comfortable. I usually wear just like, skinny jeans and a shirt with a hoodie or whatever, something more normal so that I don't stand out. But I hate those clothes, and I couldn't take it today. My friend was going to wear lolita so I wouldn't be alone, but she got sick. :/

My outfit wasn't too big and exciting, and actually not too far from what I've worn before. It was kind of old school sweet with no big hairstyle, no huge shoes, not a super ridiculous JSK or anything. It was cute, and I was really happy with it. I walked through the school and got stares, but they didn't last long. Our students are generally pretty accepting. We don't have too much bullying, we don't have cliques, etc. However, of course there are assholes, but they're just freshman yelling dumb things that are easy to ignore.

So, everything was fine until I was in class, and a monitor came and told me I needed to come with him to student management. He was nice, and the women who works in student management was nice enough, but that was where it ended. I was told to talk to this woman who is a monitor or something, and I automatically knew it was going to be bad.

Basically from there, I had to speak to several adults alone, in pairs, switching around, and I am amazed that I did not have a huge attack or just pass out. And I kept telling them that I needed to not be in that situation, but they didn't listen. But that isn't what I'm talking to EGL about, it's about this.

They told me they had a problem with my clothes, and that I needed to change. At first I didn't realize that they were actually saying that to me. Nobody had a problem with it all day, and I've come to school in stranger clothes. Hell, I've come to school dressed like a goth-loli-pirate, and no one cared at all. So I didn't get why this one instance was different.

At first, they told me that they had received several complaints about it, which I didn't believe. The teachers at my school are fantastic, and they even dress up a lot. Finally I got it from them that just one teacher had said something, because they were annoyed that their students had stared at me and said something as I walked by their room. I should mention, all rooms in our school have huge windows so you can see the hall, and we all stare when someone goes by. It's something to look at that isn't the teacher. It's normal. We have thin walls and you can hear if a class gets loud, so if there were a big disruption, I would have noticed. So, I don't think anyone would have cared except that one teacher, who was not even mine. My teachers didn't care, and neither did the other kids in my class. I was not being distracting at all. One of my teachers actually came into that room where we were to tell me how cute I looked and was really happy

Another thing they said was that we can't wear costumes to school. I explained to them that it is just an obscure fashion (I didn't say the name, because I didn't want to make matters worse), and that it isn't a costume. I also explained how I see what other people wearing is not normal for me, and that I would not be comfortable in it, because it is a costume to me. The so-called "appropriate" clothing at school is just whatever is in style and popular at the time. I'm not comfortable in those clothes, and I have a right to feel comfortable. I understand that I need to not wear super crazy things, but my clothes were not super crazy, just uncommon.

They said that I had been called in several times for wearing clothes to attract attention to myself. This was ridiculous, because I haven't been called in for my clothes since middle school, when they thought me wearing black meant I was going to shoot everyone. I'm used to being harassed for my clothes, but downright misinformation or lying ticked me off. I told them I have never been called in, and that I do not want attention.

So they asked me why I was wearing what I was, and I told them simply. They were my clothes that I wear outside of school. I don't usually wear them to school, because I don't like being harassed by assholes for what I'm wearing when I'm just trying to go to school. (I actually said that and I think called the assistant principal an asshole? I didn't mean to say that and said "excuse my language", but I recognize that it was a rude thing to say.)

They then explained to me that my clothes were just not really in the dress code. So I said yes, they are not in the dress code. There is nothing in there about my clothes. So they said that it is a gray area, and that they have to make judgement on that. I call this gray area the "we get to have this list of rules, but you know, even if you're following the rules, we have the right to judge you no matter what" area. I felt really offended already at my clothes that I spent THREE. HOURS. putting on being insulted over and over again. What I'm telling you is not even half of the things they said. I'm leaving things out so as not to speak in hyperbole, because I don't remember exactly what they said, and I don't want to exaggerate it.

I told them that what I was wearing was fine in past years, and that what girls wore now wasn't. So why just move to one little area of what girls are allowed to wear, instead of making progress in allowing us to wear what we want? They wanted me to just wear my jeans and t-shirt, but honestly, I don't feel comfortable in things even just that boy-ish, and I told them that those are not clothes I like wearing, and that I was wearing my frills because it made me feel okay. I honestly felt persecuted for my femininity today, and even more so, because I could feel them speaking to me like I was a child, and being surprised when I said I was eighteen.

I told them over and over again, just no. Just that word, or something simple like, "I am not going to change my clothes." or, "I don't agree that I should have to change my clothes."
I was being as eloquent as possible and very polite, and I let them know very clearly that I was uncomfortable, I felt insulted and upset with their comments and what they wanted me to do.

They gave me a few options. I could have someone bring me clothes there. I said no, I'm not changing my clothing. I don't feel that it's at all necessary.
They said I could go to choir rehearsal which I was missing (chamber choir a week before a concert, really important. D:), and then come back and stay there until I got my clothes sorted out. I told them no, I'm not changing.
I said I wanted to go home, and they said okay. But then they added that I could go home and change, then come back. So again, I told them, no. I am not. changing. I told them that I was going to go home and not come back that day, and that I had no intention of changing my clothes. So they again tried to state that I could change my clothes, and I don't think they really understood that I was not complying, so I grabbed by bag and my parasol, I told them I was going home and not returning today, and I left.

So that's what happened with us. Let me explain why I'm really upset about it.
I get that they weren't deliberately being horrible to me, but they were. I feel like I'm not properly representing their behavior towards me, because I can't remember the exact quotes and all that happened. I was not really there, because I was just trying not to freak out.
What really made me angry was this.
1. Being told to change my clothes that I did not feel were a problem. My counselor also agreed that she didn't see a problem. Neither had my teachers or other students. I felt as though the argument only went on and was not resolved because the guy talking to me had made up his mind that it had to go and was not open to discussion or questions. I feel that if you are out-argued with good logic, you need to accept that.

2. I was angry that I was essentially bullied into being made to feel so horrible that I felt I needed to leave school. I got up with intention of working hard today, and I was doing fine at school. However, having people insult a huge part of me over and over again and tell me that I was wearing a costume again and again made me feel horrible and like even more of an outcast than usual. D: I felt like I was being bullied out of wearing what I wanted to, and that's why I did not want to comply. If I felt that my clothes were a genuine problem, I would have happily changed them. I am not rebellious just for the sake of being rebellious or because I think people and rules are stupid. I'm too lazy for that.

3. I told them straight out that I was not mentally okay then, and that I needed to be alone. They ignored me completely, in spite of my obviously distressed state, and that was just awful. I hated that I couldn't speak back as much as I wanted to, because I had plenty of great things to say to them. I just couldn't. I physically could not. I am really angry that I told them all the problem, what they could do to avoid it, and what not to do, and they did the worst possible things. They also started calling everyone on my contact list, just bringing more people into it. They called my mom, which is great actually. When on the phone with them, they stated the problem, and she said that she didn't see the problem. So then they called my step-grandpa who lives on the other side of the country, and who was very confused. That resulted in a funny old-man -voicemail, which I always love. <3

So. I wanted to get the opinions of other lolitas. Sorry that was so long.
I'll say one more time, my clothes were not full on crazy lolita. They were toned down, my school is very casual and frankly pretty damn artsy, and it was not a bad time to wear it. I even planned to make sure I didn't have any classes today that would make it inconvenient. Like, I made sure not to do it on a day with astronomy, because I don't think building rockets and frills match very well.

I should say this. My question is not, "Do you think lolita should be allowed in school?" because we've covered that. My belief is that as long as it is casual enough not to be a huge distraction or a nuisance, it's okay.
What I want to know is, do you think I'm correct in not changing my clothes, based on their reasons for wanting me to take it off? I feel I was justified in leaving and refusing to change. I spoke calmly and very politely aside from that asshole part, and I wasn't making any stupid faces or sitting all bad ass. I respect the faculty and all they do for us. But I am not blindly respectful. The ones who were trying to get me to change were rude and mean, and I felt they had no right.
What do you think?
Also, how would you have handled that if you were there, and have you ever worn lolita to school? C: If so, how did that go?

(Also as a note, I'd just like to thank my counselor, who was really nice and trying to be helpful, and thank her for giving me time to try and talk and explain, even though I'm not sure she fully understood. But that's my fault for not being able to speak well at the time. > u>;;)

EDIT:
Here's my school's dress code as stated in the school handbook. These are the rules I signed for and agreed to at the beginning of the year.

"Clothing and Hygiene Expectations:

-All clothing shall be within the bounds of decency and good taste.
-Students dressed inappropriately for school will be given the opportunity to make necessary changes- some dress code violations may be corrected by turning a shirt inside out, covering up with a jacket or sweater or putting on an appropriate shirt. At staff member's discretion, however, a student may be escorted to student management where he/she will be given the opportunity to call home for appropriate attire.
-Excessive bareness is not permitted. "See through" blouses or shirts are not allowed. No bare midriffs or low-cut, revealing tops. Halter tops, strapless tops, and tops with spaghetti straps are not permitted. Tank tops must have at least one-inch, fitted straps.
-Clothing must be sufficient and must be worn to conceal underclothes. Pants must be worn at waist level.
-Chains, spikes, or other objects which might present a safety hazard are prohibited. Inappropriate and/or dangerous items may be confiscated.
-Inappropriate lettering, messages, logos, or pictures are prohibited on clothing, jewelry, backpacks, skin or other personal items. This includes any reference to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, violence, death, satanic themes, sex, racial slurs, disparaging remarks, or any images deemed inappropriate by school officials.
-Displaying any gang sign is strictly prohibited. This may include tattoos, handkerchiefs, suspenders, belts, earrings, jackets or devices associated with group intimidation or gang affiliation. Any group identified by common dress must have administrative approval to be on campus. Bandanas may not be displayed or worn while on campus.
-No hats or head coverings are allowed to be worn in any district building. Hats may be confiscated if a student repeatedly fails to remove it while inside. Exceptions may be made for special activities or school spirit days.
-Shirts and shoes are required at all times.
-Students are expected to demonstrate good hygiene."

They stated nothing about distracting clothing, costumes. It also never states that teachers and administrators have a right to make me change regardless of whether I'm following the rules stated.

When is it time to move on from your dream dress?

Last year I bought Twinkle Journey in black, my absolute dream dress and not cheap or easy to find. It still has the tags and I never found the opportunity to wear it. A lot has changed, primarily that I'm healthier now, and to my dismay, I found the dress no longer fits my bust. I thought about getting it altered, but even then there's no guarantee it will look good or that I will be able to realistically wear it more than once a month. I'm just typically a much more toned down Lolita.

So how do you know when it's time to move on from a favorite piece? How long do you wait before letting something go? It's been a year, I've never worn it and without alterations I never will. Have you ever regretted selling something? Or felt better once it was gone? I adore this dress so much and I feel so sad to part with it, but I hate having something that also reminds me of where I was and where I am now with my body.

Okay, I know lolita is originated from Japan and the story goes on... So, I am going to move to Japan in 2 years the later and I wanted to ask, do guys there find lolita style attractive? Are they interested in girls in lolita? Sorry if it's a wierd/stupid question but I was wondering a lot.

Too old

I wish there was no age limit for certain clothing styles in society but unfortunately there is and it seems that it isn't easy to change. For example: people are sometimes negatively looked on by their bosses because of the lolita clothing they wear in their free time, and in tv programs like 'snog, marry or avoid' it is clear that most people think alternative fashions are extremely childish, whether it is gothic, punk or lolita.
Even though I agree that you can only change the opinion of society by actively advocating the fashion you like by wearing it and 'acting normal', I also can't help but kind of agree.
Wearing alternative fashion makes it seem like you have something to hide or have to distract others from who you are, it forms an extra burden between you and strangers. At least for myself, and in my own experience. Sure, I feel happy wearing lolita, it helps with my depression. I feel happy expressing myself, a form of narcissism. And I feel like it keeps people away, which is handy because of my social anxiety. But deep down I know that I need to work on myself like the mature person that I am (supposed to be) and stop hiding behind a fashion style.
thats what makes it childish for me and thus I think I already kind of crossed my own age limit (20yo or something). I am 24 myself.
What is your opinion on this? When do you think someone is too old for:
- sweet lolita
- gothic lolita
-classic lolita?
I think classic is the only thing that can be worn almost a lifetime, but only when it is toned down
thanks in advance if you reply.

Hey everyone!
I've never posted on EGL before, but a couple of friends of mine suggested posting a video I did of our adventures around Osaka on the weekend, eating 15th Anniversary Innocent World Pies and buying goods from Ahcahcum-Muchacha.
I hope you enjoy!

(Please note: This is my first ever video, so go easy on me please!
Just a few shots from a recent meet!

I'm a little late in posting these photos, but I wanted to share a few snaps from a twinning themed meet the Austin, TX community had in April. For a... loose value of "twin" I guess. ^_^;; We had to work with what we had (and we had a few twins who couldn't make it at the last minute). We had a great time and a new friend, Glenn took some great shots!

These two got their coords together in a flash! I love the matching berets and the light/dark theme. ^_^

My "sisters" and I sort of bent the rules with a "woodland creatures" theme.

These two ladies were a stunning pair in Twinkle Journey and took some really fun and adventurous photos.

I know a lot of people have been looking for photos of this JSK worn, and these ladies all wore it with ultimate grace. I've got serious coordination envy!

And finally, a group shot! Just a cross section of some of the fabulous girls in our community.

I hope you enjoyed the photos!

Would you buy/wear an Adam and the ants print dress?

I've been toying with the idea of designing an Adam Ant print OP because I adore the idea but I didn't know if others would think it was too unrelated and not lolita enough. To give you a rough image in your head, think of the Juliette et Justine print dresses, it would be that kind of thing :)

Help please?

Does anyone know where I can get size 26 cm shoes? Bodyline barely has any in the right size and its all crazy colors.
Clobba does it but the process is so complicated. Should I just suck it up and go to Payless and wear flats?

(Sorry about first post btw.)

Break the rules

I found the theme interesting because my personal Lolita style seems to be all about 'Rule' breaking.
I don't wear petti skirt... and don't plan too. This, which I have come to find to be the biggest 'rule' there is.
I also have worn my Cat ears and cosplayed in my Lolita outfits.

But I'm still pretty new to Lolita I'm most likely breaking a bunch of others as well.
I hope that is not getting me off on the wrong foot here >_<;
