A Chipmunk

Welcome to the EGL Free for All!

Please take this as an opportunity to get to know your fellow EGL members outside of lolita. You can post WHATEVER you fancy! Do bear the following rules in mind:

  1. ALL rules of EGL still apply! Be courteous and polite. No flamming/spamming/trolling, etc.

  2. Keep it P-G. Remember that there are minors here!

  3. Max of 5 images per post, please. And please keep them to a reasonable size!

  4. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please reply to the first comment in this post.

And a couple of reminders:

  • The EGL Free for All will be every Monday and Friday. Twice a week, twice the fun!

  • Friday's FFAs are posted at times when people in North and South America are likely to be awake, while Monday's are posted at a different time for those elsewhere in the world. But of course, you are welcome to participate in either, no matter where you live!

  • The EGL Friending Meme is the first Friday of every month!

  • Also a gentle reminder: everyone who participates in the FFA are responsible for their own posts. We do not monitor or police the posts in this thread. That said, we'd like to encourage everyone to refrain from posting illegal materials, such as movie streaming or file sharing. Livejournal is not a suitable place for those things. Thanks!

Any other Lolitas workout out to get healthy? I'm about to finish the first week of the second month of Insanity. I haven't dropped much weight-wise but dropped many inches and have much more stamina and energy.
28th-Mar-2014 10:09 pm (UTC)
Me! I'm not really working out to lose weight though. I just like working out and staying active.
Are you trying to reach a certain goal?

I just fired up my new Lolita blog a few dogs (after shutting down my previous one) and I'm REALLY excited to be blogging again! I've been reading a lot of other Lolita blogs as well, but I wonder if anyone here has an active blog they'd like to share? I'd love to read and follow you!

Here's my blog if you'd like to check it out: http://twinkleboss.blogspot.com/

sure! I would happy to follow you. I mostly write about tea, writing, and lolita/fashion.

Mine is here.

Anyone want to share this week's thrift store finds? I found a knitted bolero/capelet/thing (looks like a capelet when worn but is actually has separate sleeves, much like a skort looks like a skirt but is actually shorts) that I snapped up for £2.99 because I *never* see boleros in stores near me and I think capelets look so cute...but it's purple. There is only one dress on my wishlist that's purple and likely to match it, and purple wasn't my preferred colourway for that dress. I just can't see myself being able to coordinate it unless I get my hands on some purpleish plain classic dresses, since I think the clash of textures meas non-lacey knits won't look good with gothic dresses. But I'm happy to be proved wrong on that point if anyone can show it working!
28th-Mar-2014 10:30 pm (UTC)
Unfortunately, I can't provide pictures. But if the bolero is light purple or lavender, a white dress would look great. A darker purple would be nice with deep blue. Maybe experimenting would produce nice results!

That's thrifted? It actually looks perfect for lolita, I love flower prints like that!
I've seen loliable dresses in thrift stores before but none of them fit my boobs :/

Does anyone know a good alternative/replacement for Innocent World's book bag? Been looking for said bag for weeks now, and well I'm all searched out. So I was wondering, does anyone know of any other book bags- that are more readily available?
28th-Mar-2014 11:49 pm (UTC)
I like the ones from restyle.pl, although they're not that similar to Innocent World's. Alice and the Pirates also sell book bags, albeit in a slightly different style, and this one is still available in navy although not cream, brown, or black like IW's.TT

MR. YAN BODY PILLOW? MR. YAN BODY PILLOW!

Mr. Yan promised to make a body pillow of himself if enough people were interested: https://www.facebook.com/events/813652111982787/

Can you imagine? Going to a meetup and taking home a Mr. Yan body pillow as a prize? Owning multiple Mr. Yan body pillows and tying headdresses to them and having your own private multiple Yan meetups? Giving them to your favorite Lolitas on ILD? The possibilities are endless! I hope this happens, and I hope they are under $10.

I am not even being sarcastic, this sounds really fun.

WTF, I'm scared both at the idea and the enthusiasm of the trolls...

Any pregnant Lolitas here? I was talking with my fiance the couple of days ago, about after we both graduate that I wanted to maybe take a year or two off before going back for my masters and get married and MAYBE start on our family. I know I'll have more time to wear Lolita since I won't have to worry about school, but I wanted to know if anyone wore Lolita while being pregnant.
29th-Mar-2014 01:08 am (UTC)
I have never known a pregnant Lolita personally but I think depending on the sub-style it should work. Due to the fitted bodice though it might be safer to either go with AP-type empire waist pieces or maybe going with non-Lolita dresses intended for maternity but that are in colors ways that you could use your Lolita accessories with?
I do know mothers who are Lolitas and I think there's no reason you should ever feel like age or family life should stop you from enjoying the fashion; but it might not be safe to wear things with elastic waist bands while pregnant. I'm not totally sure about this but at my high school 911 had to be called a few times because of pregnant teenagers wearing fitted garments that had cut off circulation and made them faint.

I finally decided to order a pair of shoes from bodyline. I was interested in 291 but sadly the pink colorway was sold out in every size, so i ordered 283. I'm size 38 and my foot measurement is 23.5cm so i intended to order 24 cm but after searching on egl people said that they are usually make the shoes 0.5cm bigger. After that i changed my mind and ordered 23.5cm. Anyone happen to know/have this particular two (291 and 283) are true to their size?

Well, I measured my feet and my feet were 24.0cm so I was unsure whether to order a 240mm or 245mm pair of shoes. In the end I chose 240mm, figuring that if they were too small my sister (whose feet we measured at 23.5cm) could wear them. 240mm fit me perfectly while wearing socks (tbh they might have been a little big without socks, but I'm not going to wear lolita shoes without anyway). I didn't buy the 283s or the 291s, though...I bought shoes153, so I don't know if they size differently.

However...size 38? That's a UK 5, right? I'm a 5 as well and when I measured my feet I found that I have one 24.0cm foot and one 23.5cm foot. I've been told in shoe shops before that one of my feet is a size 4½ and one of my feet is a 5. So if you have 23.5cm feet your feet would be size 37, not size 38. Did you make sure to measure both? Normally one foot is a different size to the other and you need to buy shoes to fit the larger foot.

To be honest this whole shoe sizing thing confuses me because depending on the chart I've seen 5s/38s listed as either 235mm, 240mm or 245mm in Japanese sizing. There seems to be a lot of variation.

oh my so much writing this week! I first rewrote my outline for my current novel, cut about 9,000 words and wrote a new 3,000 words. This was all in about 4 days. I still have about 50 more pages to go with this third draft, but I'm super excited.

Any other writer out there? How's your current work in progress going?

Table Top RPG hard. Create world and then try to guess how players will try to ruin everything and write a series of contingency plans. Writing hard. Eat cake. Brain broke... Create Lolita accessories until it reboots. Coffeee good.

While poking around Youtube on my iPhone, I found out that some users uploaded episodes of old Nickelodien game shows from the 90s, like Global GUTS, Nick Arcade, Legends of the Hidden Temple and Double Dare. It's been one heck of a trip down memory lane, even though I watched them through re-runs when Nick GAS existed (R.I.P.). *sigh* If only they could resurrect them and not make them atrocious like most of Nick's other shows...

Did you watch any old game shows from Nickelodien when they were on? What were your faves? I personally watched Double Dare, Figure it Out, GUTS (and Global GUTS) and Legends of the Hidden Temple.

And because I can, here's a clip of one hapless GUTS contestant trying his darndest in a water challenge and two Hidden Temple contestants who will no doubt need therapy for the rest of their lives after their time in the temple.

Omg I loved all those, especially Legends of the Hidden Temple and Double Dare :D Those temple guards were scary as a kid, haha. I wonder if anyone still has their piece of the Aggro Crag from GUTS?

How do you store your petticoats? I keep mine in my bottom drawer with my pajamas, but they keep floofing out and there is petti sticking out the sides of my drawers! I'm fine with how it looks, but I don't want to damage them. Should they hang? How?
29th-Mar-2014 11:56 am (UTC)
I store them in zip-lock bags! Or just general plastic bags because we don't have any big zip-lock bags in the house. Then I just put them in my drawer to keep them out of the way and out of my puppy's reach. I did hang them up for a while but then I needed more room space and over time they got a bit flat.

So Angelic Pretty is going to be at Sakura-con, there will be a fashion show and I am going to sign up to see if I can be a model. I asked if wearing Lolita is allowed for the bodyshot photo but the reply I got said I don't have to. Should I assume they are saying it's allowed but I don't have to?

I might be overthinking it but just want to make sure my pictures are perfect and I don't want to screw up.
29th-Mar-2014 01:31 pm (UTC)
I assume they want photos of you without lolita on.
consider what most model applications are like.
360 degree body rotation and face mugshots with natural makeup.
then modeling portfolio but the application didnt ask for that.
just submit whatever they asked for. nothing more , nothing less.

plus, you get priority if you can provide your own petticoat, angelic pretty shoes and can do your own hair/makeup.

Is anyone trying to lolita up their room this week? I don't intend to repaint or fully redecorate, firstly because it's expensive and secondly because I'm moving out in a year and we might be moving house before that, but I've been taking down some posters I've had since I was a kid and replacing them with art posters. I'm also going to clear a lot of junk off my windowsill (it seems to have become the shelf-for-things-that-don't-have-their-own-allocated-shelf) and have a window box there again. When I was younger I grew herbs there, but now I'm thinking of ferns and mosses as I've seen them for sale cheaply and there aren't many flowers that'll be in bloom all year.
29th-Mar-2014 09:09 pm (UTC)
Sorta! I bout these Peter Rabbit storage boxes that I am using for storing jewelry, bows, and socks. I got them pretty cheap. The only downside to them is that they're pretty small.
