It's pretty cool in a way, it would be interesting to know if she dresses herself or if someone in wardrobe dressed her. A few elements just seem, i don't know ...off? so to speak; like they tried to tone the look down when they should have just gone uber casual or all the way with it. :/ -shrugs- Anyway it will be interesting to see what happens and if we keep seeing more in future episodes.
One hell of an interesting song choice to say the least. :p
It did feel like someone not really familiar with lolita dressed her, because of some of the things (like the hair and hat) and how my friend also pointed out that her petti is showing a little bit. But I think it'll be interesting to see if she shows up in more episodes wearing lolita again. I think it would be great!
I thought the song was interesting too, lol. It took me a moment to recognize what it was.
well if you think about it, lolita is an outrageous fashion and anyone who wears it is usually considered strange/weird, at least in high school. so it makes sense to me that she would be in the club of "cast-offs".
I don't like GLEE and this song personally, but I love her coordinate, and this includes the hat. Sure, it's not 100% Lolita, but there are a lot of coordinates nowdays that are not 100% Lolita (and that's why there are communities like daily à la mode). What disturbed me the most is the tulle (?) that peeks out of the dress, but maybe it's part of it. I tried to identify the dress, but couldn't. If somebody knows about it, please let me know ! If she appears in other episodes (which is likely to be the case since it looks like she will be the-asian-with-the-cute-and-weird-style-of-the-show), let us know too please ^-^ !
I noticed that girl right away since I've got the same print in the same color as hers. It was so cool. (Even cooler as my Lolita wardrobe consists only of two jumper skirts and a skirt, so finding someone wearing the same ones on television is really slim.)
Just about made my night. :)
(I actually really liked the hat. It thought it looked cute!)
saw "baby got back", got super excited thinking it was the Sir Mix-A-Lot version, and now i'm super disappointed because what the hell was that? WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT, GLEE? this is why i don't watch this show anymore. but my all-lolita rendition can happen yet!
and that hat is hilarious. it's like she's newsie lolita.
Not a huge fan of Glee for a variety of reasons, but I remember in the Halloween episode of Parks and Rec I'm like 80% sure I saw a lolita. I couldn't see much more than her bag and her skirt in the shot, but it's still nice to see it. :)
Any girls here who have done any acting work (extras or not) who've worn lolita for it?
I thought it was nice they threw in a random lolita to show how different and unique a lot of people in NY are. I also think that while not 100% lolita, it was still a lot more lolita than the last time they had a "lolita" on glee that everyone on here flailed about. I wouldn't wear that coord, but I personally liked seeing the hat used that way. I kind of feel like as long as you have something on your head, it's fine. The blouse wasn't zomg super lolita either but I definitely think it worked. I mean, we can't expect a mainstream TV show to know everything about the fashion and do it completely right every single time.
I really don't like this version of the song, but that's another issue altogether.
Other than that, everything from the shoulders down is great except for the sticking-out petticoat and the gloves in my opinion, but otherwise all I can hear is Carlotta from Phantom screeching: "And I HATE my hat!"
Definitely lolita, and as a sweet cord its pretty cute and looks nice on her :) but since I didn't see Lolita before in Glee - I cant help but think it was purposely used for this song "big butts" topic... And that makes me kinda mad, that once they show a Lolita - it's in this context of 'big butts'. Maybe that's all they see in the fashion - flaring big butts on thin looking Asian girls (since they showed it on that actress) or maybe I'm wrong and we'll see this character in more Loli cloths. I hope I'm wrong...
I hope you're wrong too and that she turns out to be an actual Lolita. I think it would be really neat to have that, especially on a popular show like Glee. So, I'll definitely be on the lookout for her in future episodes.
I really hope the character wears lolita all the time (it looks like she will be an actual character, since it looks like Kurt's joining that group). I liked her coord a lot! I don't think her hair was un-lolita or whatever. It's just not OTT, that doesn't make it wrong.
Also, the thing about the song... it's one of those things that used to be standard practice, but it's becoming increasingly hard to get away with because of how well information spreads on the internet. Also, people (not here) who are blaming the actors for that are stupid. Why would you expect the actors to know (and be responsible for) what the network's legal team does?
I hope she wears it all the time too. I didn't mind her hair that much. I just am not a fan of the hat lol.
People are blaming the actors? Seriously? Wow... They're not the ones who write the script or pick the songs. That's what the writers do, so if anything, blame the writers.

I want to know as well. We need more good portrayals of us in the media.
