Requesting Washing Instructions for AP's Triple Tart
24th-Jan-2013 08:32 pm
Hi egl,

Just a quick question on how to wash my AP Triple Tart JSK (It's my first time washing a lolita dress and I'm scared, haha).
I have searched and looked through the washing instructions posts but cannot find anything. I have seen the dress in a couple of colourways pop up on the comm sales though, someone must know!
I have the lavender colourway, but I'm mainly worried about the red from the strawberries running.
Room temperature hand wash OK, or  dare I put it in the washing machine on hand wash cycle (low temperature)?

Thanks so much!

In general, most of the posts I see recommend dry cleaning your brand lolita dresses because they have a tendency to run. You can always pick a spot on the dress to test first with a dab of water to see if any color leaks out. (Like a spot near to hem so it won't matter if it bleeds)

That way you'll know if its machine washable or you have to take it to the cleaners.

Yeah, I think I will test washing methods using the waist ties first since they're detachable and I don't usually use them.

New AP items are generally safe to wash without shelling out for the cleaners. I'd stay away from the washing machine unless you have a no-spin cycle because the spinning can ruin the lace (even on a gentle or handwash cycle), but you should be safe washing the dress on a no-spin cycle in the washer with cold water. If your washer doesn't have such an option, you can handwash items in a large sink or even in a bathtub, again using cold water and a gentle detergent. You can use ice water if you're paranoid. Hang them to dry away from direct heat and direct sunlight (a shower curtain rod is generally a good place)

OK cool, thanks for the advice, it's really helpful! I think hand washing will be the go then.
Sorry for the repetitive post, I know there's quite a few of the kind. Just wonder if anyone knew about the particular print because I know some of my friends have brand dresses that are fine in the machine!

Yeah, honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Not to sound jerky, but in my experience reports of brand prints running are seriously overblown! The only ones that actually seem to do it on a regular basis are 2004-5 BTSSB prints; most new AP is pretty safe to wash as long as you do so carefully :)

I wouldn't risk it D: I hand wash my stuff in cold water with Woolite detergent. Like the previous poster said, you can use a bathtub, a sink or even a plastic bin to wash it in.

Nice, thanks for the advice! :) I think I will go with hand washing.
