Question about Bust sizing
23rd-Jan-2013 07:50 am
Hello. This is my first time posting on EGL, so I hope that this post is allowed, if not I can delete it. I am trying to buy a high neck/no collar blouse in Navy to go with a JSK that I want to buy. Well, I found a blouse that is perfect from AATP that would fit my 98cm bust. But then when I looked it up on lolibrary.org, it says that the same blouse is 90cm in the bust, not the 99cm that it says on the BTSSB/AATP website page for the blouse. Can anyone tell me if the bust measurement for it on AATP is the right one or if the bust measurement on lolibrary is the correct one?

For reference, it is the Prince Conrad blouse that I want, both on AATP and on lolibrary.

Prince Conrad on AATP

Prince Conrad on Lolibrary

EDIT: Now I know the correct answer. Thanks for the help everyone, though the answer wasn't what I expected and has now disappointed me.

Well as far as I am aware lolibrary takes their measurements from the official sites. The one you posted from lolibrary is a 2011 release so there is a chance that BTSSB changed their measurements in the new release? Anyway I would go with BTSSB measurements.

Lolibrary's is actually more accurate, even though, as wabbie_chan pointed out, it's for a different release (you can tell because of the different colorways- if you look on BTSSB's site there are two different releases [1, 2] and there was a third last year, each with different measurements). I own that release of the blouse (purchased it through the listing you linked early last year) and it's 88cm measured flat. It would be better suited for a bust of 85cm or less and there's no way it would stretch to 98cm, I'm sorry.

Lolibrary just copies stock info, they don't give true measurements of items (which is why, if you search, they actually have entries for several different releases of the blouse) It's a good start when you're looking for an item but since many brands give rough measurements with stock info it's always better to ask someone who owns an item before buying it.

Wow, 88cm to 98cm is a pretty considerable gap in measurements. It is a bit disappointing when brands don't measure their products well and you end up with stuff that doesn't fit :\

Yeah, Baby is weird and horribly inconsistent with their measurements :I I have a smaller bust and frankly the only reason I consistently order from them is that I can almost always count on their measurements being off by 5-10cm.

Someone I won't name because they work there told me that the measurements are based on the fabric before it's sewn together, so you're getting maybe 3-5 cm of seam allowance added into the total. They also measure shirred items by how far they can get them to stretch with one person holding it down and one person pulling, which is not how most people want to wear shirring.

I love the shop staff at Baby and I really want to support the store, but I only reserve bags, socks and accessories. D:

For button up blouses, you want a couple cm of give (like 3-5) in the bust to account for breathing, IMHO. You might still need to add a snap between the buttons if you are more busty.

As other people have mentioned, Lolibrary just copies down the measurements that the brand lists (unless the measurements are under "Owner Measurements") and I too have bought things from BTSSB that didn't measure what it said (smaller than stated measurements), so I'd personally be cautious about ordering something from them if I were close to the max.

When using Lolibrary, always look at the comments--people who've worn/tried on/owned the items will leave correct measurements there.

...Are you serious?! Damn it! Guess this means I'm never going to get a brand blouse then if that's the cause, with the measurements being smaller than given. There were no comments for it. Thanks for letting me know about this, everyone.

This isn't ALWAYS the case- measurements are sometimes bigger and there are also some blouses that have shirring panels and can accommodate a larger bust. Just keep your eyes out!

I know, but I need a blouse with a high neck/no Peter Pan collar that fits my bust. But all I find that do fit are ones with the Peter Pan collars, which won't work/look right with a JSK that already has a Peter Pan collar on it.

If you want a high-collared blouse, have you tried IW? They're on par with BTSSB/AP in price and quality, but they offer an L size that often accommodates busts of 100cm (and they are typically MUCH better about accurately measuring than BTSSB). Here are a couple of pieces they have that look similar to the Prince Conrad blouse and are in the L size:

I'm not sure what colorway you're looking for, but they have lots of darker options like navy, brown, and bordeaux on their site :)

Those are great, but none of them are in Navy and from the looks of it, IW has no Navy blouses on their site right now. I need a blouse in a Navy colorway to go with all the JSKs that I want in their Navy colorways too.
24th-Jan-2013 04:39 am (UTC)
Ah, I see, I didn't realize you needed a navy blouse. I know they've released navy pieces in the past, so perhaps it may be time to check the sales community or auctions?
24th-Jan-2013 04:44 am (UTC)
I tried to look up navy blouses in the sales comm, but wouldn't work and all the sales posts I've seen were selling white/black/ivory/any other color blouses except navy. I don't do auctions because I don't want to pay way more than I have to for anything, especially for one blouse with how much I'm going to spend getting everything else along with it. Guess putting up a WTB would help instead probably.

If you browse Japanese auctioins, I find basic pieces like blouses and stuff tend to be on the lower end of the price range (I've paid $50-$80 for most of mine after fees, etc. on auction) :) I'm also sure you could find something with a WTB. But again, I'd just keep an eye out; navy is one of IW's staple colorways and I'm sure they'll put one out soon.

I can't do Japanese auctions, it's too confusing and complicated with having to find/hire a shopping service to bid and all that stuff. Alright, thank you so much though for the help/advice.

look on ebay for an offbrand navy blouse (high collared shouldn't be as hard to find), buy a black blouse instead (will still look nice with a navy dress) or buy a blouse from Taobao. I know you've said you don't want to look at non-English language websites but it is worth putting the extra work in to find something perfect.

Also, have you tried Meta? They had navy blouses in some of their lucky packs which I'm sure lots of people are selling on the comm sales
24th-Jan-2013 01:46 pm (UTC)
I don't trust buying on E-Bay for blouses. Black won't work with the navy JSKs I want to wear, and Taobao is too complex, having to hire a shopping service for it. Meta blouses will not fit my bust at all.

You're just creating problems for yourself here! If this particular navy blouse won't fit your bust (sadly you need more than 1cm of give even if they were the correct measurements) it's a shame but it's not the end of the world!

What jsk are you wanting to wear it with? It could be that black might well actually look nice with it, or lavender, or grey or gold or sax. Perhaps a black blouse and a navy bolero would make it work?

I can't say that I can personally see the difference between buying blouses off ebay and buying blouses off a Japanese website, except that if it doesn't fit or look right you won't have lost much money. If you're worried about it not fitting, ask the seller for more measurements, if they don't give them, don't bid, simple as that!

Taobao and shopping services aren't 'too complex' or 'too difficult', stop being obtuse :P You're certainly smart enough to learn, It just takes a while to learn! There are plenty of great ordering guides on the internet and many Taobao shopping services have cart systems in place so it's like using an e-shop. This is a great group if you run into problems: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lolitafashionmentoring/?ref=ts&fref=ts

If not, there is Anna House and Fan Plus Friend who do custom measurements and colours and Quitieland, Clobao and Loli loli paradise (facebook) who will sell Taobao things at a markup.

Finally, if none of that works for you, buy a white brand blouse that does fit and dye it. If it's cotton with cotton (cluny) lace it will dye well except for the stitches and the buttons and even then it's not noticeable enough to look bad. I've dyed two brand blouses, one lavender and one a bright dark pink with great success!

I'm already a part of that FB group, Galactic Journey to the Stars JSK 1 in Raphael/Navy. I have a small white/light colored bathroom so dying it would be impossible without staining the bathroom/sink/bathtub. Thanks, but I just found a solution for fitting the blouse so it's fine now.
