Okay, so I have an pretty light olive skin tone, and I really want to buy a lighter
wig of some color, so that pink clothing might look better on me..

Here's some pictures of me;
((Sorry, for the total random pics xD; Just trying to find one so you
can see my skin color really well))

I know for a fact I cannot do pastels :c
It looks terrible!

Could I possibly pull off something like this?

or is it too light?

or what about this?

any suggestions are helpful!

Thank you ahead of time!

You have my skin tone. A golden blond like the wig above would look fabulous on you. Thats also my natural hair color. Any in a dazzleing rich colour would fit you beutifully. Other colors like brown with rose tints and rich peaches in light blonds would be great too. Otherwise, experiment!

I'll keep that in mind!

Please place your images behind a LJcut or your post will be deleted. This video should show you how to make an LJ cut if you don't know!

You're gorgeous, but lighter hair isn't going to change what colors look good on you; that's decided by skin tone. If you want to wear pastels, I'd suggest looking at the old school Lolita vibrant pastels rather than the watercolor ones. You want a warmer pink that leans towards coral, warm rose, or even Barbie. The pink in your icon is warm; you could possibly wear a pink like that. Pink is a hard color to wear, since it's so picky and hard to match with skin.

Ah thank you so much for telling me this. (and thinking I'm pretty ; u ; <3 You're so sweet!)
I'm probably going to just have to sell this pink dress then.

You're definitely right!
I think the more warmer colors would look better.

Thank you so much for this advice!

There are basically two things to consider when trying to figure out if you can wear a colour or not.

1) is your skin tone warm or cool? (your natural hair colour will be the same, even though it will be a different colour). If your skin tone is warm, then cool colours will look off on you, and vice versa. Though we think of the reds, oranges, and yellows as warm, and greens, blues and violets as cool, it isn't that simple. Most colours are blended, after all.

For instance: if you have a warm skin tone, you want a red that is closer to orange than purple, or a pink that is closer to peach than to lilac. If you have a cool skin tone, the reverse would be true.

The advice below to wear contrasting colours near your face when you want to wear colours that don't suit you is also good.

It's hard to tell skin tone from photos because the light balance affects this; if you are being drenched in blue light, you'll look cooler. But if you do have a warm skin tone, you also should be careful with black and white--pure black and pure white might age you or make you look ill.

2) You also need to know whether you look better in clear, bright colours or in blended/desaturated/mottled ones. Some people look their best in heathered, greyed, dusty tones, tweeds and the like, and clear pastels or bright vibrant colours look harsh on them. (If you have trouble with ALL pastels, not just pink, this might be your problem.) Some people look their best in clear, bright colours, and heathered, greyed, dusty tones and the like bring out every blotch, imperfection, line, zit, scar, or freckle. (I love classical style. I cannot wear 90% of Innocent World. I have one JSK that is dusty rose that I love. It looks awful on me unless I have something contrasting near my face.)

If you can't do clear/bright, the way to do pastels is to do medium rather than very light versions; an icy pink or sax won't suit you, but Alice blue or dusty rose would be fine. With a wig, you'd want one with lots of highlights.

If you can't do desaturated/mottled, stay far the hell away from two-tone or multi-tone wigs, even natural ones. Don't get your hair frosted, and you probably won't want to let your grey show when you get it until your hair has completely turned.

BTW, the common "season" designations are basically expressions of these two axes. Winter is Clear/Cool, Spring is Clear/Warm, Summer is Muted/Cool, Autumn is Muted/Warm. Don't let anyone tell you that it has to do with being dark or light skinned or with race.

If I were you I'd go to a fabric store and try draping colours around your face. If all the light pastels are awful but the dusty pink and Alice blue are fine, the problem is clear colours. If the pink and blue pastels are awful but the peach and pale yellow and spring green are great, the problem is warm tones.

Once you know where you fall in both categories, you'll know what wigs to avoid.

I love the bit about going to the fabric store, and putting them next to my face to see the contrast.
Thank you so much, tiferet, for this information.

This is incredibly helpful!

I have this book called Color Me Beautiful which says pretty much that in so many more words. Your ability to remain concise while being clear is astoundingly good.

As the person above said, how a colour looks on you depends almost entirely on your skin tone. However, if you really want to wear colours that don't flatter you but still want to look good in them, there is a trick for that. You see, I LOVE yellow, but it looks terrible on my skin tone, which has yellow undertones. What I do is try to keep a complimentary colour near my face (in my case, pink), and then I can wear a yellow skirt or JSK and it doesn't look as bad. As long as your face is framed by a complimentary colour, and as long as that colour matches the colour you're trying to wear, it will look fine.

There are also make-up tricks you can do to affect how your skin tone appears. As I said, I have yellow undertones, but I think pink undertones are more complimentary to the clothing colours I like. So I use pink-toned makeup to play up the pink in my face - pink blush, pink eyeshadow, etc. It isn't something I could do everyday because the makeup looks a little too vibrant for everyday wear for my taste, but it suits lolita very well.

Finally, I just want to say that you're totally gorgeous and I love your hair in that first picture! Your hair colour will look just fine with pastels - in fact, I think dark hair and pastels look best together, due to the contrast.

Thank you so much for telling me these tricks!

If you really want a wig I think the second one would look absolutely gorgeous! If you want to wear pink I would look for warmer pinks like stated above.
16th-Jan-2013 10:09 pm (UTC)
Yeah! I think I'm going to grab the second!
I love the light brown, and I think it would look better than the first on me.

I definitely will. Thank you so much for commenting!

As long as you accessorize "correctly" and play up the warmer tones in your complexion you should be fine with natural hair. (Which is BTW gorgeous!)

I think the second wig would be the best as it's lighter toward the bottom and a LITTLE bit closer to your natural hair color where it frames your face.

Thank you so much!

I also think the second wig would be a better buy c:
It's like a lighter version of mine, so it should be safe.

Thanks for posting! and your icon makes me smile! xD

With your skin tone (which is very pretty btw) I would absolutely say the second wig.
If you went with the first one, I'm afraid you might look orange-y... And we definitely don't want that! XD
Also; I agree with squeeful, the pink in your icon would probably be a nice color on you. n__n

I don't want to look like an oompa loompa LOL

Okay! O u O
I'm glad! I love this shade of pink.
I'm not gonna be afraid to play around with it >:3
