Question about h. Naoto's macaron OP
6th-Dec-2012 10:17 am
I haven't posted here in years but I just got the macaron OP from h. Naoto and it fits fine... except the gathered paneling sits really high on my chest and my bust is actually where the corset lacing is. It works for me because I'm mostly flat up top but it just seems like a really odd design choice if it is intentional. So I was wondering if anyone else who has this OP noticed this too or if perhaps mine is actually flawed... Comments anyone?

Judging by stock photos your bust should sit near or at the gathered part. I think you just have a longer torso then what is intended for the dress, but if it looks fine it doesn't matter.

I took a closer look at the side view pic (link two comments down) and you can see the bust is supposed to sit exactly where mine does, just below the gathered panel. I suppose this dress just was not designed with lady parts in mind.

It could be that you have 'longer shoulders' than what most brands cut for.
I can't wear a lot of OP/JSKs by BTSSB and AATP for the same reason.
If the shoulder straps are too short for a person's bodice, the chest piece will sit above the bustline.

I've never had this problem though. I know I have wide shoulders but height wise I always have to shorten straps because everything is too low on my chest. This is the first time something was high. =(

Even on the stock photo with the mannequin they have the mannequin's bust sitting ~4cm above the waist bow, where the corset lacing is and the frilly neckline is just a low collar, so I'm not quite understanding your problem?
I uploaded a stock photo to show you:

The other one actually. The gathered part basically sits almost to my collarbones which seems unusually high, even for the conservative nature of lolita. And well, my bust is right where the waist corsetting meets the bust gathering which on a bustier girl would make a very awkward fit. I just looked at the side view and that really is where the bust is supposed to be...weird.

Ah well, if it looks good wear it.

Ah i see! For what it's worth i have a victorian maiden OP that has a panel like that as well, it is too high and small to have been for the bust as well. If it looks good that is all that matters!

I've tried on this dress at their store in San Francisco, and in my opinion, this dress is not sewn and designed very well (at least, not for the average Western figure). :/ I don't have a problem with fitting Japanese made clothes in the shoulders (I'm 5'2 and my shoulders aren't wide), but the way it was sewn doesn't allow for any shoulder room at all, and the armholes are unusually narrow. That makes it sit very high up on the chest. I'm guessing it would fit best on a very petite frame, probably under 5'2 and 120 lbs.

I noticed what you mean about the shoulder room. I've worn it out twice now and the fit doesn't bother me nearly as much. I'm 5'4 and 125 but flat like a rock which probably helps a lot. The neck tie just doesn't work though since the neckline is already almost to my collarbones. You're so lucky you've been to the store. *jealous*
