Bodyline shipping?
1st-Feb-2012 09:41 pm
I want to order some things from Bodyline and I was wondering which shipping option I should choose: EMS or AIR? AIR is cheaper but has anyone had any problems with shipping to the US? I was reading some negative things about DHL and was wondering if this is the same thing? I'm just worried that I might have to pay customs fees or something :/ Any help would be appreciated.

I've used the cheapest form of shipping from Bodyline since they switched out the DHL fixed price [ever since the quake] and haven't had any issues with it at all. Be warned that Bodyline ships heir stuff in bags [even shoes, no box] no matter what shipping you choose, but so far nothing I've ordered [including the shoes and boots I've gotten] have come scuffed or damaged. I didn't have issues with the DHL shipping either, when I received from them as well.

Also, as far as I know, US doesn't do custom charges [I've never been charged custom fees on anything I've received out of country] so if you are getting things shipped to a US addy, you shouldn't have to worry about that [though I've found as a rule, most companies mark their stuff down automatically anyway. For out of US stuff, it's good for those charged fees, but for in US it's a bit of a gamble since should anything happen to the package, you'll only be able to recover what they've marked as the value. If you order 100+ worth of stuff and the package gets lost, you'll only get what ever they've marked it down to as reimbursement. If they have a mark down option, I always opt out and keep it at full value. Just in case since again, in the US, we don't usually deal with custom fees on personal packages].

I don't remember if Air and DHL are the same thing... @__@

As far as DHL shipping goes... They lost my package once, so I had to email/call them and tell them what was inside so they could find it. I said there was a red+pink stripey dress inside and a few days later they called back to say they found a red "one piece" and didn't know what it was. O__o So I said it was the right package and to send it.

Otherwise they've been fine.

I haven't been hit with customs fees ordering from Bodyline, but I've never ordered more than $100 at a time either...

AIR and DHL are not the same. DHL is a private company; AIR is sent by the Japanese postal service.

I ordered a few times with airmail. It takes about 1-2 weeks. Never had problems. They send you a tracking number in the shipping confirmation email. After about 4 days I copy/paste that number into usps.com I actually get information about where my package is at. That puts me at ease.

ps. I always get them with usps not DHL, I don't know why. I live in NY, wonder if it differs by state. I also leave the default option "full value" and don't change anything.

Good luck!!

I've only been hit with customs one time ($15 fee I paid to DHL to handle it a few weeks after the order was received)in my decade of buying abroad for a GO I ran in my local community. (I've actually spent more in one go on my own in years past.) But I've I prefer EMS because it arrives quickly and tracked.

It's highly unlikely you'll have to pay customs, unless you're putting in a very, very large order. EMS is a bit faster than AIR, but AIR will save you a good bit of money.

I have had AIR to the US with no problems. I didn't get hit with customs, but I did have them make the value to 1/2 of cost.

AIR is easy to use, DHL is more expensive.

AIR shipping will only track until IT LEAVES TOKYO, just to warn you. Once it's out of Tokyo, it's usually another 3-5 days depending on where you live :)

DHL is no longer present in large areas of North America. This service gap has lead to them being dropped as a carrier.
EMS(Express Mail Service) is fast and will have tracking the entire way but is more expensive.
AIR is space available. It usually takes 1-2 weeks, but if the postal service is extra busy, like around holidays, it may take longer. Air is also only tracked in it's country of origin so you will not see any updates after it leaves customs in Japan.

Any time you order from oversees you have a chance of being charged customs that may range from 3%-8% of the package value. Private carriers like DHL increase your chances because they screen a higher percent of their packages. EMS and AIR both go through the USPS so your chances are very low unless the package is worth more than $300. If you are assessed customs, you will likely have to pay it in order to retrieve the package.

I hope this clears up any questions, but please feel free to ask.

Although EMS is the quicker (and more expensive) method of shipping, I will just warn you now that I and a few other people I know have been having trouble with US customs. I had a friend who ordered from AP Japan (EMS) and her package sat in customs for nearly 2 weeks... I ordered from Bodyline using EMS shipping and although it reached the US in 1 day, JUST yesterday my package was released from customs after sitting there for 8 day, so becareful if you're willing to pay the extra $20 for "faster" shipping because it may take as long as regular Airmail :/

I live in the US and i ordered something frm bodyline last week by airmail, it came here yesterday and I had no problems with it so you should be fine if you use airmail.

I've got AIR on the last few things I bought from bodyline. It takes about two weeks, but I haven't experienced any real problems with the shipping itself.
