EGL: Full Rules and Consequences
30th-Sep-2011 05:33 pm
  1. Please keep all posts on topic.
Keep posts relevant to the topic of Elegant Gothic and Lolita fashion. Please read the FAQ, check the memories and the tags before you ask a question, you may find others have asked it before. In addition, you may also want to check out lolita_handbook to answer any other questions you might still have.

  2. Please note that this is not a western Gothic fashion community. If that's what you're looking for, visit gothfash!
Consequence: Your post will be deleted if it is deemed too off-topic. Please bear in mind that this is left to moderators’ discretion.

  3. Please be courteous to other members.
Be polite in offering constructive criticism and respect the wishes of those who ask for constructive criticism. Berating macros and hurtful comments will result in a warning or ban. Please do not post about any off-site drama, inflammatory off topic ranting, or moderation issues. If the latter arises, please contact a moderator or admin directly. If something related to egl occurs off-site, please refer to this guide detailing what you can do yourself or with the help of LJ abuse to better handle the situation. Posts containing explicit nudity, blatant pornography or profuse obscenities will be deleted without warning.
Consequence: Your comments may be screened or frozen if they are deemed excessively rude or inappropriate. Repeated harassment of other members will result in official warning.

  4. You must be a member of the community to post and comment.
Comments from non-members are automatically screened. Please join the community in the top right of the profile page.
Consequence: None- though your comments won’t show up until you become a member, so it is in your best interest to join :)

  5. Images larger than 500x800 pixels must be placed under a cut, and please, no hotlinking!
Not everyone has a high-speed internet connection. Additionally, the layout of egl will not retain its intended shape if images above 500x800 pixels are posted. Please place all larger images, and any image after the first, behind a lj cut. Images, including artwork, should be of good visual quality. Images should not be hotlinked. This community is large enough to take down a website with low bandwidth if an image is linked from that site. If you wish to display an image in your post from another website, please use your own webspace to do so. There are various free photo-hosting websites available if you need them.
Consequence: If your image is not edited to reflect community standards within 24 hours, your post will be deleted.

  6. Explicit content posts must be placed completely under a cut and bear a "NSFW/18+" disclaimer above the cut.
Images and content cannot contain minors in suggestive positions or in any state of undress. This community does not advocate child pornography, and so unless you can prove that people in extremely suggestive images are over 18, please do not post said images. People depicted in suggestive artwork should be clearly post-pubescent. All images should be generally work safe, and if in question, should be placed under a cut with a NSFW warning. In general, if a person in an image would be arrested if they walked around outside in what they have on, you shouldn't post it. The moderators of this community withhold the right to delete, without warning, any post they find inappropriate.
Consequence: The first inappropriate post will earn you a temporary, one-month ban, while the second will result in a permanent ban from the community. Posting of illegal material, especially of images depicting children in suggestive situations, will result in an immediate, permanent ban from the community.

  7. Sales posts, auctions, and 'Want to Buys' are no longer allowed on egl.
Please use our sister community, egl_comm_sales for your sale transactions. Sharing your work with the community is allowed; however, you may only post it for discussion purposes without links. Linking to online shops for personal gain and gain of sales are not allowed, and inclusion of such links without moderator pre-approval will result in post deletion.
Consequence: The first violation of this rule will earn you an official warning. The second will result in a one-month temporary ban. The third will result in a permanent ban.

  8. Please do not advertise other communities without mod approval.
If you have a community that you think would be appropriate to advertise in egl please contact any of the available mods for approval.
Consequence: You will be given one official warning for advertising without permission, and your advertisement post will be deleted.

  9. Do not delete comments.
If you feel some comments are getting out of hand, please screen them and warn a moderator, do NOT delete them. Deleting them means moderators cannot hand out warnings where necessary. Please screen spambot comments and allow them to remain, as well, so we can report them to LJ and ban them from commenting in the community.
Consequence: Deleting comments for any reason will result in one official warning.

  10. No introduction posts.
An introduction post is when a new or recently active member of the community feels the need to make a post to introduce themselves. These posts usually contain a name, a location, and how long they've loved the fashion of Gothic & Lolita. We do not allow these because we receive so many new members daily. Introductions would clog the community with unnecessary posts. If you feel the need to introduce yourself, you may add an introduction to an on-topic post or do so in one of our regular Free-for-All posts.
Consequence: An introduction post will not earn you any warnings; however, please note that introduction posts will be deleted by moderators. Repeated attempts to repost an introduction will earn you an official warning.

  11. Discussion of illegal replica items is prohibited.
EGL is no longer the place to discuss, buy, or sell illegal replica goods. For more details on this policy, please see this post. Not sure what sets an illegal replica apart from a legal replica? See our FAQ post here. Similarly, please do not post full scans, movies, or TV shows- please stick to sharing short clips or a few pages for discussion and education purposes only.
Consequence: First-time offenders will have their post or comments deleted or screened (respectively). Repeat offenders will receive official warnings.

question about rule 8. What about your own comments on someone else's post and you wish to edit your post but don't have a paid account?
1st-Oct-2011 12:40 am (UTC)
In that case, we'd prefer that you just reply to your comment with the edits.

Okay just making sure! :)

In a lot of places public nudity isn't illegal, and even when it is, the legal amount of clothing is often, uh, sparse. Also, just about everywhere in the US Victoria's Secret puts up 10' posters of gals in skimpy lingerie... Might want to clarify, or just say work-safe only?

I am sure that they are talking about stuff like child porn when talking about illegal stuff, not nudity itself.

We're essentially asking that members use common sense when posting. This is an all-ages community and we want to make sure that NSFW content is clearly labeled so that younger users (and their parents) can know to stay away from it.

Basically: keep it tasteful, use a little common sense, and make sure that any non-worksafe stuff is marked. This isn't a rule that we have to enforce very often, but we want to make sure that the community remains a safe environment for Lolitas of all ages.

Hmm. Does this mean it's still okay for people to make posts with comments disabled just to shut up criticism?
1st-Oct-2011 11:18 am (UTC)
This is a very good point. It's never been addressed in the rules but it is not acceptable to make posts with comments disabled. Auto-screening is the same, unless there is some valid reason (contest or something)

My recommendation would be to say something like "I would prefer you not to comment with criticisms at this time, please respect and be courteous of my choice" (then link to rule 2)

To be honest, I think if people are unwilling to accept criticism or feedback, then they probably shouldn't post to EGL. If all they want are compliments and backpats, then they're better off bugging their friends and family.
