Budget Lolita is making it all yourself! A huge list of tutorials
29th-Jul-2010 03:22 pm
I know there are a few lists of Lolita tutorials around here, but I haven't seen any recently,  unless I've missed them! So, for my blog I've decided to compile a list of Lolita tutorials, I'm posting these to a sticky page (or whatever they are called!) on my blog, but I figured I would share them here and ask if anyone else knows of any good loli-torials.
List updated: 2/19/11 Added a lot more tutorials!

General Tips and Tricks
Sewing and Crafting Tutorials
Skirts Blouses Dresses Headwear and hair accessories Bows and other decorations Misc. Modifying Lolita pieces
Sweets jewelry and deco Other jewelry Decor
Patterns  Some of these patterns may be out of print and you will need to hunt them down on the second hand market.
Dresess Patterns with usable parts (You're going to have to modify these pieces, sometimes add a whole new skirt, lengthen/shorten hem lines, or maybe just add a few details).
  • Free empire waist dress (good bodice, will need to attach it to a properly shaped skirt)
  • Drindl  (The skirt will need to be shortened and some fullness will need to be added to the skirt)
  • Simple darted dress pattern (good bodice, will need to attach it to a properly shaped skirt)
  • Vogue 8019 (torso shortened, fuller skirt added, click here for an example of it modified into a Lolita dress)
  • Simplicity 3673 (skirt needs to be fuller click here and scroll down for an example of it modified into a Lolita dress. Skirt part can also be used to make a classic high waisted skirt.)
  • McCalls M5619 (need to draft a properly shaped skirt, but the sleeveless and short-sleeved tops are perfect!)
  • Butterick B4443 (good bodice, will need to attach it to a properly shaped skirt)
  • McCalls M6123 (good bodice, will need to attach it to a properly shaped skirt)
  • McCalls M5923 (good bodice, will need the either make a properly shaped skirt or modify the current skirt so that it's flared and can fit a petticoat)

I will be updating the page these are all posted on as I find new ones. I'm especially on the lookout for more beauty, decor, and jewelery tutorials.

If you re-do it, will you leave this one up? XD You're the 3rd person who has a tutorial on here who commented with a "D: That tutorial is sooo old!" It's still very helpful!
29th-Jul-2010 08:48 pm (UTC)
will you (or, are you willing to) update this post with new links to the tuts that people are redoing?

or, for people redoing your tutorials, are you/can you edit the existing entry and keep the same link etc and so on

Yes I will! I am, right now, adding links to the post on my blog, but when I get a little bit done with that I will edit this one with the new info. It's just easier for me to edit one, copy/paste all the html, then edit this one.

I will be continuously updating the one on my site, and periodically updating this one.

awesome, thank you!

i haven't looked at many of the links yet, but i wanted to let you know that the "Half-elastic waistband skirt 2" says "access denied" :(
29th-Jul-2010 08:44 pm (UTC)
Oh yeah! The girl who wrote it juuuuust took it down now to redo it XD I guess it was a very old one and she wasn't very happy with it.
29th-Jul-2010 08:47 pm (UTC)
ahhh i see! okies ^^ well then, i await 'till it returns!
29th-Jul-2010 08:36 pm (UTC)

29th-Jul-2010 09:00 pm (UTC)
I posted a few makeup tutorials back when it was the monthly theme that you might want to add :)
29th-Jul-2010 09:07 pm (UTC)
Thank you very much! I was looking for at least one good smokey eye tutorial to add to the list!
29th-Jul-2010 09:18 pm (UTC)
Awesome, thanks!
29th-Jul-2010 09:33 pm (UTC)
You win at life. This is amazingly helpful. The lists of tutorials in the memories is full of broken links & posts that no longer have working images. Its nice to have a complete list of functioning tutorials. :)

Thanks for already including a couple of my tutorials, I hope they're helpful for people. I actually just posted another one on stenciling your own cutsews-
29th-Jul-2010 09:41 pm (UTC)
I just added it and commented on your post :D It's really awesome, I've honestly never seen freezer paper stencils look so good!

The old, broken down, lists were why I made this one. They also seem to included every "yardsale yukata into a wa loli dress" tutorial ever XD I wanted to create a more up to date and true to the style list.
29th-Jul-2010 09:53 pm (UTC)
Aww thanks. I love freezer paper stencils, they're so simple. I'm glad you made the new list, it's full of lots of great inspiration and added like 5 things onto my already never ending 'to try' list. :)

30th-Jul-2010 10:03 am (UTC)
Thanks so much for posting this! :D
Does anyone have a pattern for a detachable collar by the way? I'd really like to make one.
30th-Jul-2010 05:00 pm (UTC)
I have a pattern for one here, I am not including it because it's just a japanese pattern with no instructions though,
31st-Jul-2010 12:26 am (UTC)
I have some tutorials (style, cooking, and crafting) on my website in the Atelier Section

I plan on having more sometime in the future (repairing stretched shirring, making bow shoe clips, and some more cooking ones)

thank you thank you thank you thank you!
2nd-Jun-2012 09:14 pm (UTC)
not to revive an old thread, but since this is one of the first google hits for lolita patterns and tutorials, simplicity 6048 works really well for a JSK. (I had to lengthen the skirt, but I'm 5'11" tall)
2nd-Jun-2012 09:37 pm (UTC)
Oh this definitely isn't that old XD I actually just added some stuff to this list on my blog!

Thanks for the link! it looks like a really cute pattern!
