Review: YMW Designs [lolitofu] Commission

This is my first review so I hope I cover everything ^^'

I commissioned a necklace and earring set from [info]lolitofu at the beginning of this year.

The set cost around $118 if I remember rightly but I knew that I would be paying for the best materials and craftmanship shown by examples of her previous work.

She let me know right away that due to commitments, such as exams, that the set would take longer than usual to complete which I was fine with.

She thoroughly discussed all the design issues with me including chain length, colour of the crystals, style of earrings and gave me a say in everything so the necklace would be exactly what I wanted (she even managed to perfectly intepret my terrible sketches!)

I was kept up-to-date on the construction process through detailed emails explaining every step in the making of the set with lots of photographs.

There were some delays such a ordering mishaps with the company she buys her materials from but she informed me right away whenever something cropped up and was quick to fix any issues.

The package was sent with insurance as promised and arrived quickly, wrapped well and beautifully presented.

~ Well packaged and presented in lovely boxes (bubblewrapped inside also!).

~ It's so much more beautiful than this, my camera was low on battery :/

~ She even included a gorgeous free gift! ^^

~ Earrings were the exact length I needed to avoid tangling with my long hair.

~ Some detailed shots of it worn. I love the arrangement of the colours and the quality is amazing.

Overall, I'm really pleased with the outcome and would definitely recommend YMW Designs to anyone interested in commissioning jewellery :3

I think they are adorable too :) I was thinking of commissioning some simple earrings with one card charm per hook and a couple of crystals ^^

That sounds super cute! And would add some very convenient versatility to the set if they're done with beads that also match the necklace. XD

Did she make the actual chain herself, or buy it pre-made?

I believe she bought it pre-made.

do most people make their own chains?...

[info]amy_the_yu

Depends? If it's link by link, I think everyone buys it pre-made, but if it's got alternating beads and chain or is made completely from beads linked together, I really hope I'm not the only one that makes her own. DX

^^ To answer your question, this one was premade. I can and have made my own chains before, but it's only if I have a specific design and have a reason to, otherwise, I use premade chains. :D

Hope that answers your question!

What type of materials wid she use for the crystal and pearls?

Are they real?

She said in one of her previous comments that they're Swarovski crystals, which are made from crystal glass.

They're Swarovski crystals and pearls. About the pearl, basically, each pearl is created by using a Swarovski crystal sphere. Then each sphere is layered with several coats of mother of pearl. Afterwards, it's given a final pearlized coat to maintain the colour and shine.

Hope that makes sense. ^^
